Weber should be fine on that elite team with that elite defensive group - PhillySportsGuy
Not only that, but Weber has some hard miles on him. Got to wonder if the small signs of decline will speed up in the near future |

I still can't wrap my head around what Montreal and Edmonton were thinking.
Adam Larsson is a good, solid young defenseman with a lot of upside, but Hall is one of the top wingers around. It seems Edmonton was more worried about getting a solid RHD than making a good trade or getting value.
As for the other deal, I think Subban is better than Weber & on a better contract and I know he's younger. Weber's still elite offensively, but in terms of his skating and shot suppression, he's really not an elite defender. Montreal will likely need to do what NJ did for Stevens in the twilight of his career & get him a smart, mobile partner. - Jsaquella
Listening to Sirius radio on the way home, Boomer Gordon was of the opinion that this was the only trade that Edmonton *could* make. He opined that there was no way they'd be able to move Eberle or RNH because no one was going to pick up their salary, and that they *had* to make this move.
I'm not sure I agree with that reasoning, but so far... he's the only person I've read or heard who wasnt ready to break out the pitchforks and torches over the move.

He's going to struggle without an elite puck mover like Josi or Suter |

Weber made Team Canada for the World Cup. Subban did not.
I think this was the deciding factor. |

That could be the case, but it's not like they were in a situation where they had to move Hall. |

If the best trade you can make is to get pennies on the dollar, don't make any trade. That's really all I can say. |

These are two of the worst trades in NHL history. They happened like 20 min apart.
I love how in the middle of all this, Marshawn Yzerman announced Stamkos is signed to a shockingly reasonable amount and everyone dgaf. |

They may have been looking forward to who they were and werent going to be able to protect among the forward corps come expansion. I'm just guessing here. I can't really wrap my head around this one.
On the brighter side, no Oiler fan will ever bust our chops again about sending JvR out for L Schenn. |

I said right when it happened that this is JVR Schenn on a larger scale. |

They have refused to make any trades now for years. Wtf did they hold out for?
Just insane. Wonder if we had a shot at Hall. Morin for Hall or something. Doesn't matter, but it would be fun to know. |

He's basically mid-2000's Sheldon Souray at this point. The decline won't be pretty. |

I hope it's a disaster and PK wins multiple Norris trophies. My god, him on a pairing with Josi is filthy. And that's ignoring their other d men and prospects.
Good news though: Shea Weber will still be able to win the hardest slapshot trophy! |

You would think they'd have been able to make a decent trade after free agency died down, before the start of the season, or at the deadline. Its not like they can reasonably expect to contend for the Cup this year, so where's the fire? Why the rush?
As I said, in a later comment.. I'm really having trouble wrapping my head around this one.
