The fact that no one even tries to defend that move from Edm speaks for itself.

What was Chiarelli thinking?

Weber is goddamn amazing, and it's not about the cap hit/money/contract or whatever.

Subban clearly annoyed both management and teamates with his attitude and we get a known leader in Weber.

But to me, there's no question about it, if it's not already the case, in 2-3 years down the line Subban will still be in his prime while Weber will decline, slowly but surely. He'll still be a good player, his positionning is too good for him to become useless and his shot will still be the strongest out there....

but he won't be P.K.

- Scabeh

Do you think Weber will be able to stop Matthews, Marner, and Nylander?

Weber is 30 and has 10 years left on his contract he is owed 16 million in bonuses due over the next two years, Subban is also owed $16 million in bonuses due over the next 6 years. Salaries for Subban are $11M for two, $10M for two and $8M for two, total $58M for six (Cap hit is $9M), Salaries for Weber are $12 for two and $6 for four for a total of $48M. So the Habs pay a bit more bonuses up front and save $10M in salary over the next six years. After PK is a UFA, Weber continues with $3M for one and $1M for 3.

Contract favors the Habs, smaller cap hit, less money paid, but Weber is 30 and PK is 27 - we'll see who wins this one. For me right now, Weber is better, in a few years - we'll see.

- winsix

Disagree.

Weber has already started to decline, and his skating is becoming more of an issue. He's also not got as good of a first pass out as Subban. Habs are going to see him exposed, because playing with an old Markov is not the same as playing with Suter or Josi in their prime...

They have Kucherov, Johnson, Palat, Boyle, Nesterov and Bishop to sign. Now remove the 10 mill per for Stammer..

How will they do it.

I agree with you. PK had defensive issues though. I did not see as much of Weber, but he is a regular top pair guy with Team Canada - PK is not.

That's the reason I really thought they weren't going to sign Stamkos. It's going to be thought that's for sure

why are they better?

they lost Subban.. they are worse..

- Tanooki

Yes, a guy who has been known to defensively weak and picked up a guy who is great in his own end.
Granted he is a little slower.

Both got 51 pts this season (PK in 10 games less). Pk had 6 goals, while Weber had 20.
One makes Team Canada on regular basis the other rarely does.
Long term its a foolish trade, I like PK, always wanted him on the leafs.
But with the other moves the Habs have done...they are little better as of now.
IMO.

I won't disagree with you because I do not see enough of Weber. There is circumstantial evidence though, namely, Weber being the first name out of Team Canada GM's mouth, not PK. That may change.
