Connolly signing was not a mistake. Certainly not a costly mistake. It was a short term contract spending cap space that we couldn't have spent anywhere else.

If the Leafs could sign either Backes or Staal on a 2 year deal then it would make sense - except they already have Bozak in that role - and the Leafs don't NEED or WANT to add a center. They only want to add an elite player and only Stamkos fits that bill.

The scenario is not at all comparable to Brad Richards/Tim Connolly.

I wasn't commenting on the length of the conte t or anything. The original rumor I saw made no mention of total cost or length only they'd offer 7-9mil.

If this corporation stated for the league that they would offer Stamkos a big national marketing deal if he signed with a Canadian team, it would be extremely difficult to show circumvention on the part of MLSE.
