No, but that deal would not make sense. Could trade a one year only salary like Michalek to make room this year. Next year lots of money freed up. Only way I would trade for Hartnell is if Murray comes this way.

As the days go by without the Leafs trading/dumping guys like Bernier/Bozak/Lupul for cap space, the more I think a sign/trade is possible..


also, what a steal for Jones. I guess their GM isn't as dumb.....nah..

His contract would be insured though. I think CBJ would only have to pay about 1.2M in salary and would be able to roll his cap hit to LTIR.

Nah i like the deal. Just don't see him passing Leivo on the depth chart. Seems like a lot of people have him penciled in the starting line up... Columbus fans don't seem too upset in losing him.

certainly seems like the Rychel pick-up was inexpensive - but would have preferred to give Percy if he was going to be waived anyway (okay just being greedy).

I wonder if there's a deal to be made which would see a few of the Leafs CAP hits (Michalek, Bernier, Laich) who have 1 year terms packaged up for Columbus slightly longer contracts and some choice draft picks. Columbus has problems with CAP outright but more significantly with NMC/NTC coming into expansion draft next year. Reducing their longer term commitment to those could be bonus... Leafs won't have to worry too much as they'll have a bunch of entry levels on the books.

Columbas has the Korpisalo (young goalie) who put up pretty good stats and W-L record over 30+ games last season.

I think so, Columbus must make moves. Bernier will not be one of them they already have Bobrovsky at $7.4 million long term. Michalek would make sense. Good opportunity for Lou to fleece them again.

I think it would be Greening instead of Michalek unless the Leafs retain $$ on Michalek

edit: oh yeah Michalek has a NT clause too I believe.

I don't think so. Greening, Michalek and Laich all have contracts expiring after next season. Longer contracts will be more of a burden than these guys on the Leafs. These guys can either play mentor or ride the bus in the A to finish out their contracts, and the Leafs get the cap space for free next year. The almost 20 million that the leafs gain after this season is more than enough to fill some voids.

He must have laid it on the line with Jones, he basically gave every remaining penny of cap space they had to sign him. Only $40K left below cap. They are so (frank)ed.

He's a good finisher, kinda the guy who will find space near the goal and find the corner with one touch. He thrives on getting the ball on the ground, or something that he can attack with his head... he's pretty awful receiving the ball 20 yards out with back to goal.

I just think the Jones didn't want to move to Edmonton.

Anybody know if General Fanager's expansion tool takes next season into account in terms of which ELC's are exempt and which have to be protected? Because playing next season would burn another pro year off their contract I would assume.
