That being said, something has to give with their remaining RFA's now.

Sucks for the Leafs to not get Stamkos, but I'm glad he resigned in Tampa rather than signing anywhere else. It would've broke my heart to see him sign in Buffalo, Montreal or Detroit.

I cant say I am all that upset.

Hopefully the Leafs keep their cap flexibility for the next couple years until they see what they really need.

Stamkos would have been great but there is no huge downside to this for Toronto.

Stamkos at $8.5m/8yr is like $9.6m/7yr. Gotta think the Leafs offered him that.

$8.5m/year is NOTHING. It would certainly raise his value in a sign and trade. Tampa would get a much bigger return. Maybe Stamkos is doing them one last favor before he leaves.

Weird trade for the Habs. Weber great but signed until 40 years old - 10 years left at $7.857 million cap hit. but last three years at $1 million. Retirement before the contract is up could be cap trouble.
