It was more the not signing the deal and going to basically free agency. Toronto has done some good in the last year and half. Maybe he believed in them. Never know.

star players use MTL and TO to raise their value but they never or very rarely seriously consider them as an option. Leverage....that's our teams are used for.

Leafs effectively did good things in the past few months, but they are still 2-3 years away of being contenders. And I mean playoffs contender, not Cup contender.

Dont' go say that in the Leafs thread. I said that from day one. Holy (frank) one guy was in tears because i went against his dream of Stamkos coming.

More about getting paid several million more in the states than leverage. Canadian teams can only offer endorsements to cover the difference. Endorsements that they can likely get anyway. (Stamkos already has a deal with SportChek)

Show him a list of every Toronto area kid becoming UFA in the next 5 years and tell him all of them are going to Toronto on the hometown discount. If nothing else, I learned distraction is key, from American Politics.

I'm confident they will make room for a legit top 6 player or two. If they have to trade DD and or Emelin later on, so be it.
- fidopro

I can believe that, the problem is that I don't know if they have the same definition of a top 6 player.

Well, I mean technically if they are playing in the top-6 they're a top-6 player, right?

True, I think they see it more as a top 9, as they should.
Good teams roll 3 lines which can contribute offensively.

Basically Habs have to have a serious cup run in the next 2 years for this to not look like a giant (frank) up of Roy or Chelios proportions

Seems about as likely as the miracle on ice.

It's not even close to those 2 trades... I for one think it's a good deal for the Habs

I get on that bandwagon too from time to time. Like Sam said, we're used as a tactic
