I take Weber a million times before Karlsson(right now, in 7 years..probably not), Weber is a complete D, physical. Karlsson is an amazing offensive D who struggles often in his zone.

Karlsson won't be with Ottawa in 3yrs...

- Symba007

In a game that's getting faster all the time, weber is going to start to struggling to keep up to the pace. Especially without Josi or suter beside him.

I live in Ottawa, sucks for the fans, hard to compete with an owner not wiling to spend to the cap
- Symba007

We have a 3 year window to try and make a run before Karlsson becomes the highest d-man in the NHL. It would be nice to add a reinforcement or two to do that, but alas, you can't go over that internal budget, even if it means you might get some playoff games.

I don't mind the trade but at the same time it doesn't really seem to do much. What's their cap hits respectively ?

9 for subban vs 7.8 for Weber.

Bergevin's plan is to build a team canada. Give him a bit of time.
- J-P

He has a goalie good enough and a D-man good enough, the rest of the team can't even make B squads.

The last game Weber played he looked like he belonged in the ECHL, and that was against San Jose, hardly a speedy team

Backes and Ladd. Probably manage to get both for 8-9/yr combined. Both are probably good for 15-25 goals and are big and "tough"... MBs direction it seems.
- nords21

oh I'd be very surprised if you can get both for 9M... will probably be closer to 12M IMO

unless they part with Plek....

Barring injuries, which could be common for his style/size. I dont think Gallagher gets enough credit. The rest of them a meh though.

What I like about this trade is that habseyesontheprice probably imploded at this point, reducing Berkshire and his crew of mongoloids to ashes.

Eller and Subban within a week.

So saves them a million, not really that much. Weird. Possibly all that stuff about being over the top was too much for them. I honestly don't get this trade from either side, weber is a few years older as well.

Seriously though, I think the Habs win this deal in the short term. Weber is better than PK right now. Long term, it's a big swing and a miss by Bergevin. That contract is ugly. From a Habs perspective, you have to hope the short term stretches out more than a season or two. It's already pretty well documented that Weber is already on the decline.

Over rated and over paid. Injury prone. Not a good leader. Looks Swedish.

I'm confident they will make room for a legit top 6 player or two. If they have to trade DD and or Emelin later on, so be it.
