Statistically Speaking: Dealing Subban should haunt Habs

We got a top 3 D but man is it unbearable we have to give PK Subban doing so...
- Habsody

It's not 2011. Weber is not a top 3 dman.

Yeah, 8 years ago:

The Thrashers still existed, Ilya Kovalchuk was playing for them and scored 91 points.

Marc Savard was a point per game center.

First and Second Team All-Star Defensemen were Mike Green, Zdeno Chara, Nik Lidstrom and Dan Boyle.

Gary Roberts and Mike Sillinger were still playing.

The Leafs were in the middle of a rebuild and looking to finally break out.

A LOT can change in that time.

Lots of similarities to the Gomez trade. Other teams get the best of his hockey. Montreal takes on the poop left at the end of the bottle.

Nothing to back it up? Ok. Every measurable statistic flies in the face of that. As does a Norris trophy and a separate Norris nomination. But hey J-P from Hockeybuzz wasn't sold so...

It doesn't always go to the more deserving Dman, this year is proof. Theodore won the vezina and hart for a half a season. What's your point ?

It's a win by substraction, we can finally talk about something other than Subban's fashion sense.

Weber, Doughty, Karlsson for me. I will get flamed anyway since i like that trade as a whole and from a team's perspective.

Remember when the Habs use to be the team that (frank)ed other teams over and always got the best player?

(frank) this poop.

You are pushing it now. Weber had 20 goals last season.

Top 3 D ? Are we in 2022?

Shea is a legit #1 just like PK. Fair deal. If PK was a distraction, then so be it.

What really caps it all off, is the trade pretty much epitomizes the condescending (frank) you attitude Bergevin has had towards the fan base his entire tenure.

Yup, that's all on the Preds. But just read they owed Weber an 8 million signing bonus Friday, well...guess that's the Habs now.

the last 3yrs of webers contract is 1mil/yr.

Buyout would be peanuts if necessary. His cap hit will remain at 7.8mil so it will be easy to trade as well to some team trying to reach the floor.

I take Weber a million times before Karlsson(right now, in 7 years..probably not), Weber is a complete D, physical. Karlsson is an amazing offensive D who struggles often in his zone.

Karlsson won't be with Ottawa in 3yrs...

I have Keith at 4th so, whatever. PK is a very skilled player, Weber is a very good hockey player. Loved Subban, but never thought i would see Shea the tank Weber wears a habs jersey.

Ya but Karlsson almost never has to play in his own zone.

I don't get the argument. Isn't the idea to have the least shots and scoring chances against? Karlsson does that significantly better than Weber

Edit: Also, if you refuse to acknowledge stats, the last game Weber played he looked like he belong in the ECHL.

So, we now have ~9million in cap space. Which former top-6 destined for our 3rd line is about to get 6.5 per for the next 5 years?
