Here is the bottom line, from my perspective.

If the Habs were on the cusp of greatness, a stacked team that was about to be dominant for 2-3-4 years with a high chance of winning the cup, then this trade makes sense.

But they are not... and not even close. Even picking up Stamkos would not have done that for the Habs. And in 3-4 years, the Weber contract is going to be a huge albatross for this team, especially if/when he retires and the cap recoup will be an utter disaster.

but MB and MT don't give a (frank), cause they will be long gone by then.

100% agree.

Subban- 27 yrs old and under contract until 34 @ 9M.
Weber- 30 and under contract until 41 @ 8M.

Sweet deal.

The last 4 years are basically voided, there will always be a team that has to reach the floor

Don't think you're fully understanding how his cap hit is going to work. But keep thinking that.
- Habsolute009

Made sense to me. Poor team dont want to pay salary, but often need cap hit to reach the floor. Weber contract will look nice to them since it will cost them 4 million, but they are cap charged 7 million. Arizona just did this with Datsyuk. Pay 0 dollars, but get to the cap floor.

Unfortunately, the GM is being pushed around by the other 29 GMs.

Still beaten though... that pesky talent void keeps coming back to haunt them.

I won't lie, i don't really get your point. PK has 7 years left on his contract and i really believe Weber will be elite during that time frame so really how this trade doesn't make sense?

Not to poop on weber, but playing with Markov will be way different then playing with suter and Josi.

Weber has 10 years left at almost $8M.

If he retires, the new cap circumvention rules for players / contracts such as Weber will kill the Habs down the line.

Worth taking the risk, if you are gonna win it all now (or on the cusp of). Not worth the risk if you are struggling just to make the playoffs.

I disagree, Habs are a better team today, maybe not in a few years but today, I believe the Habs are a better team.

Don't think Bergevin is done either.

I don't ever wanna see or hear that (frank)er again.

I am beyond ashamed and embarrassed beyond belief for defending him the last few years.

Absolutely loved the shot Subban took at the Habs in his PC. Loved it. (frank) them to oblivion.

The perspective is: better than what? they are still a middle of the pack, at best, team that will struggle to make the playoffs.

One of last year issue was Markov playing top pair minutes, it is not said that will be the case next year. A guy like Fowler/Shattenkirk is available. Still early, i loved PK really did but man we are also getting Shea Weber.

I hope for the long term benefit of this team he is done. Yes they might be better for 2 seasons where they likely won't win the cup anyways, but after that it will be tough to watch.
