Older on a worse contract. We can debate about who is better as of now. Anyway, the trade is done. Let's see if Bergevin can do something about that top 6 upfront. - deadpoulet
now that is a very good point.
I think he's not done. |

On another note, a good deal for both MTL and NSH. Subban has some insulating players in NSH dressing room, MTL gets an actual captain.

Weber plays more minutes yet have less than half the giveaways of Subban. But, but he is such a (frank)ing possession beast!!! |

By the time weber's contract becomes an issue the heavily front loaded contract will become an asset to poorer teams. |

Here is the bottom line, from my perspective.
If the Habs were on the cusp of greatness, a stacked team that was about to be dominant for 2-3-4 years with a high chance of winning the cup, then this trade makes sense.
But they are not... and not even close. Even picking up Stamkos would not have done that for the Habs. And in 3-4 years, the Weber contract is going to be a huge albatross for this team, especially if/when he retires and the cap recoup will be an utter disaster.
but MB and MT don't give a (frank), cause they will be long gone by then. |
