I am beginning to think that MB will target Staal.

Dunno why, just a feeling.

The captain really strapped the team on his back and carried them across the finish line for that last dozen games.

Steven Stamkos' salary AFTER TAXES, if paid $12 million per year:

DET: $6.5 mil
BUF: $6.3 mil
TOR: $5.6 mil
MON: $5.6 mil

Tom Martin ‏@4TomMartin · 18m18 minutes ago

Tampa Bay's reported offer of $8.5 million per year would translate to $5.2 million. If signed before Friday, they get 8th year. (2/2).

Tom Martin ‏@4TomMartin · 16m16 minutes ago

That's assuming the parties listed would offer 12 million. Doesn't seem like that would happen. #Sabres certainly hold financial advantage.

Stephen Whyno ‏@SWhyno · 34m34 minutes ago

If you're into betting on the whims of one person, Stamkos odds: TBL 1/1, DET 11/4, TOR 7/2, BUF 8/1, MTL 12/1, VAN 22/1. Stamkos should bet

That term is too short, we might lose his best years.

I don't know...I haven't seen any Leaf or Pen say they didn't like Kessel since you waddled out of the dressing room.

I said in Edmonton's case it would have to be considered.
So a top 10 LW in the league with a hit of 6 against a top 10 D in the league with a cap hit of 9?

Explain how this is stupid.

- stormeyAlterEgo

i think a top defenceman is generally a more impactful player than a top winger. yes there are exceptions like Ovechkin, Kane last year. with Taylor Hall, you're talking about a guy who has been putting up Max Pacioretty numbers the last 2 years.

13 goals and 39 points last year. assuming he takes another step back to 9-10 goals, 33-34 points, that puts him right in Bergevin's sweet spot.

Habs are after the following players:

Perron
Ladd
Stamkos
Backes
Weise
Martin

and they will get nobody as usual.

- Symba007

No, they might get Perron...as an overpay for an underproducing local talent...someone's gotta fill the role of Briere/PAP...

Complete neophyte in betting, but can you really bet on a 1/1 odd?

And yeah the salary after taxes is lower, but he'd be paid in US$ while living in Canada.

at 66% of the salary of PK.
Plus 3 years younger.

I don't think it's a no brainer...despite you thinking it's "stupid."

Now think of it as Hall plus another 3 million dollar player for PK. Is it still stupid?

i put less emphasis on the cap hit in this situation because the players occupy such different roles. age... whatever they're both signed through their prime years.

im sorry for calling you stupid. it's just that sometimes i hate you a little bit.
