Yep. Also, I crunched the numbers (I added 8 to 2016 and subtracted 1990), and it turns out that even at 8 years, his contract would end before he turns 35, so technically no old-age contract at that point

If Tampa don't sign him, the next team can only sign a max contact of 7 years - making the $80mill ~11.7 over the term.

You have to think that Stamkos would be weighing the benefit of the extra year against making the Leafs give up a significant asset.

There is some smoke about this sign and trade stuff. We all know it never happens in the NHL, but I could actually see it happening, for a nominal return to Tampa like a Defense prospect and a 3rd or something. I doubt they take back Bozak or any other salary and I doubt the Leafs give up Kadri.
