I still think that "coming home" and playing for the leafs and the challenge of helping build up the leafs and be part of a winner in Toronto is going to be front and centre.

Plus sell him on all the post career money he would make as a Leaf alumni.
I believe I heard on 590 that they make the most of any NHL team....or at least are paid the most for appearances, golf tournies etc.

The gist was that Stamkos wants to be a Leaf, always has. Newport is adamant that the deal makes him the highest paid player so it has to be north of 10.5 aav. And the s&t is a real possibility as a solid to Yzerman.

Won't put all my faith into it but he was right about Babcock. Even after reports got out he was signing with Buffalo.

You have to think that Stamkos would be weighing the benefit of the extra year against making the Leafs give up a significant asset.

There is some smoke about this sign and trade stuff. We all know it never happens in the NHL, but I could actually see it happening, for a nominal return to Tampa like a Defense prospect and a 3rd or something. I doubt they take back Bozak or any other salary and I doubt the Leafs give up Kadri.

The truth is, I think he gets that offer, and more, elsewhere. Maybe from both Buffalo and Detroit.

I wonder if the sponsorship potential or wanting to play in Toronto is enough.
