I agree we need a player JUST LIKE Lucic. But not him. He has the potential to have a horrible adverse effect on JV and our other young guns, take stupid penalties that cost us games, and embarrass the organization as a whole. Not a risk worth taking when he's not going to be the difference between winning a cup and missing out, plus in a few years when we ARE competitive, being saddled with that contract could hurt our chances greatly.

I don't wanna see JV 5 years from now threatening to kill someone because he's sour about losing a playoff series.

The whole argument that he will harm the team with stupid penalties is overblown..

http://www.hockeydb.com/i...ts/pdisplay.php?pid=83957

He has shown maturity in his game as evidenced by his declining PIMS. Sure, once in awhile he will have a meltdown on the ice (not off the ice) but it's becoming pretty rare. I don't think LA or BOS fans feel he embarrassed there organization.

Again, not saying I want him at the term he will demand but I think the criticism of Lucic is partially unfair by Canuck fans.

i don't understand all the hate on Lucic.

He's exactly what we need. He only turned 28 this month and probably has at least 4 good years left in him. He brings an element that this team needs desperately! if you're looking at just his numbers i can see why you may be against signing him to anything over 5mil, but he brings more to the table than just that.

1) He is a deterrent to other teams who even think about going after the Sedins.
2) He'll allow guys like Virtanen, Sbisa, Horvat, Gaunce, Etem etc to be more physical because they know they'll have Lucic backing them
3) Having a guy in your top 6 who brings that physical element frees you up to have more skilled guys in your bottom 6.... experiments like Rodin become more digestible. Maybe it frees you up to move dorsetts contract as well.... which looks like an extreme over payment for a 4th liner.

I would hope the biggest concern for everyone is term. I think Lucic brings some hinges the Canucks have badly been seeking for a long time and that's not only energy but grit. The kind of grit that produces over 200 hits a year and chips in 40 to 50 points. He also provides a huge edge to the team and creates space.

I'm on the fence but I wouldn't be heartbroken if we signed him. We may even be able to improve his attitude with the classy guys we have on the team.

The last thing we need is a glass house that is Eriksson. Sure he scored 30 goals but the guy has a terrible concussion history and I just think he could be the new Sammy Salo or worse, Keith Ballard. We need guys that can play and be durable. Lucic's play does concern me in the sense that I wonder how much longer he can keep it up but I think in terms of what TYPE of player the Canucks need, Lucic fits the bill better.

Boedker can also be physical and I like him as an option more but he has consistency issues. We could be (frank)ed with any one of those guys but Boedker being 26 makes it better in terms of trade value for the future because he has more time to improve.

Lots of players issue death threats on the ice. It happens in beer league for (frank) sakes. He is a passionate dude and just happened to do at an inappropriate time (ie he was caught). JV needs to play with more of an edge and that is something Lucic can teach him. The Sedins will be here to keep JV in check.

Exactly my argument. Sign someone cheaper for less years and JV will likely grow into the same type of player as Lucic. No need to handicap the team with a horrible contract when we can get grit for much cheaper and for less term.

JVs a big boy he can make his own decision around how to behave.
i'd like to see Lucic demonstrate how to be a PF, but that doesn't mean he will become a carbon copy of the guy and start dressing the same...

I will concede that I'm overselling how much he will teach bad habits but the argument regarding the contract remains the same

i'm on record as not wanting eriksson nor lucic but the eriksson injury history is grossly overblown.

aside from missing 20 games 3 years ago (concussion), he has only missed 1 game in the last 2 seasons and only a handful (cumulatively) in the seasons prior (aside from the 20 i mentioned 3 years ago).

yeah, i can see that argument.
remains to be seen tho, he's still young and could remain healthy and productive throughout the next 6-8 years with a lil luck.

I would like 2 of any of these

Lucic, Boedker, Okposo, Brouwer, Ladd.

One for the twins, one with sutter/baerschi(or rodin)

No problem with this list, altho I am no Boedker fan and if anyone is concerned about Lucic getting paid, I would think Ladd would be worse ... altho he isn't a cretin, I guess

Is it really expected that Rodin will be handed a 2nd/3rd line spot? We really have no idea yet how he will play, I would imagine a poor camp could mean he doesn't play at all.

He will not be risked on waivers, his game is suited for 2nd/3rd line. I also think that if Burrows is not traded before final day of Buyout, we will buy him out

The only reason we are even talking about Lucic and eriksson is the desire of this franchise for quick fixes and playoff appearances. Different Management team same approach. Doomed to repeat history.
