We could do a lot worse than Lucic.
I personally think he will go to Edmonton. They will trade a few players for some defence and cap space. |

Would Lucic in EDM continue to add to VAN's woes as a "soft team"? - VanHockeyGuy
They only play each other like 4 or so times next season, but I agree- You have to sign him. Edmonton won't be the only team that's tough to play against and he will buy space for the kids.
I don't like him, but much like Fluery... I'd rather have him on our team that play against him.
Besides... With Lucic as a Canuck I'm sure the league would be much more willing to suspend him thus further exposing the bias. |

I think Benning is being a bit hypocritical - he indicates and emphasizes his preference for 'high quality' character players and yet he's going after what is the antithesis of 'high quality' character. I'm surprised that Linden et al are on board with this. I know it's all about putting people in the seats but I just don't think Lucic would be a good fit here. More importantly, he is going to be seeking term as well as dollar, something which is going to handcuff the Canucks in a few years time. I could perhaps see this signing if the Canucks were much further along in their 'retooling' but at this point in time, do you want a guy like Lucic mentoring JV and other impressionable young players? - Zogg
Benning is a moron who's strings are being pulled by someone who knows nothing about hockey. |

Benning probably deserved the fine because he technically broke the rules, but it's good that they were mostly lenient about it.
He didn't really say anything that people didn't already know. Anyone with half a brain would know the Canucks were interested in those players. The amount of damage done was extremely negligible.
Gotta send the message that what he did isn't allowed, but in the end can't penalize them TOO harshly for that. - PepinoPamplemousse

i don't understand all the hate on Lucic.
He's exactly what we need. He only turned 28 this month and probably has at least 4 good years left in him. He brings an element that this team needs desperately! if you're looking at just his numbers i can see why you may be against signing him to anything over 5mil, but he brings more to the table than just that.
1) He is a deterrent to other teams who even think about going after the Sedins.
2) He'll allow guys like Virtanen, Sbisa, Horvat, Gaunce, Etem etc to be more physical because they know they'll have Lucic backing them
3) Having a guy in your top 6 who brings that physical element frees you up to have more skilled guys in your bottom 6.... experiments like Rodin become more digestible. Maybe it frees you up to move dorsetts contract as well.... which looks like an extreme over payment for a 4th liner.

You and i are on the same page here.
I have said it before, and i'll say it again, Lucic adds a lot of desirable aspects that this team lacks.
I think Edmonton needs him even more however (and would allow them to move one of their top 6 forwards for some help on the backend) and will open the bank.
Comes down to where he wants to play in the end. |

100%
this would also allow the Sedin's to have some more space as well on the top line.
