Regardless of who they sign, if they sign anyone, they won't be worth the money in three to for years. - LeftCoaster
JB Is a fool if he signs Lucic or Loui for 6 years. |

Frankly, this is more shocking than Aqulilini being at the dinner. Really, Mayor Moonbeam as a pr guy for the canucks, have we really good down to that level? - allsports
From what I read, he was at the restaurant having dinner and just happened to be there at the same time. Planned or not, I'm not sure, but from what I understand he wasn't there as part of the pitch. |

Losing your franchise player for nothing is a catastrophe. Just imagine the outrage if this happened in Vancouver. There would be a lineup 10,000 deep to jump of the Lionsgate bridge. - CanuckDon
I would have made him my best offer by this time last summer and if he didn't sign I would have traded him then. Why risk injury with a piece that important? This makes Gillis's handling of the Loungo situation look brilliant in comparison. |

Stevie Y might be a good judge of talent but look at all the contracts he has to get under the cap now. You're right he should have done the best off by the tdl and got something back for him. He's let the other teams essentially offer Stamkos a number he can't refuse and letting home go for nothing . |

There was more anger directed to the Canucks over baby Corrado than Stevie Y gets over freaking Stamkos! Stevie should be canned over this fiasco. You are exactly right, if he couldn't be signed last summer he should have been dealt for a huge package of futures. |

Because it's a non hockey market, simple as that. They don't care. |

The amount was excessive. Most teams would have been fined $20K while Boston would have been awarded an additional 2nd round pick. - CanuckDon

Well this is true that nobody in Tampa cares but what about the center of the universe Toronto? Why isn't Stevie getting shredded? Perhaps the media will wait until after he signs or doesn't sign in Toronto.
Edit. I suppose it's because everyone loves Yzerman. He was a brilliant player but he shouldn't get a pass for being incompetent as a manager. |

Because they want him to sign there. Can you imagine all the headlines they'll get out him signing there, it'll be Stamkos this and that for the next year and lore from the center of the universe. |

If the Canucks don't sign anyone July 1st is it a victory or failure?
Not sure I want to get into a 6 year deal for a plug that could end up being a Dustin brown type contract in 2-3 years. - Scooby_Doo
Even if Benning manages to save cash and bring in a couple of impact low dollar UFAs I'm sure it will be failure around here...

I would be happy. There are a few RFA's that didn't get qualified that could have potential. Benning has showed he likes to buys low on previous 1st round picks. Then he won't break the bank and sign a boat anchor contract.
Remember Benning sated that the current roster was a playoff team before injuries. No need to go crazy on July 1. |

I'll never forget at how bad Yzerman was in front of the camera announcing the Olympic Team. He will never live that down. |

The Mayor was only involved to figure out how much rioting there will be. |
