Couple of other things about Benning-gate and we'll let it go. Players aren't fined as much for hits which could end a career /1

Ed Willes ‏@willesonsports · 5m5 minutes ago
And Bergevin and Yzerman deserve consideration for NHL's hypocrite of the year and there are plenty of candidate to chose from.

Bravo NHL for fining Benning, his mistake was speaking to the fans and not one of the league's pre-approved insiders as Bergevin did. Joke.

it's the truth, leaking it to the press to talk about is okay, tell every gm that calls that Subban is available is okay, another gm is asked about it and comments and they get fined..

Seth Jones just signed 6yrs avg $5.4m/yr. It's going to cost Edmonton even more to try to find a dman through trade bwuua

That's great! It's amazing how many fans complain when Benning and Linden try to communicate and interact with the fans as much as they do. The fans would react with rage and hysteria if the opposite was true and they cut communication. I am starting to think this fanbase deserves Gillis or Milbury

much of the fan reaction is driven by the negativity of media.

the media complains that JB is an open book then they complain JB hasn't laid out his plans for rebuilding the team.

no such thing as balanced reporting, they think their job is to hold someone's feet to the fire and if there isn't a fire, give them a minute because they have matches and gasoline...

Because Edmonton is looking for a top dman and the talk has been about a threat of an offer sheet sent Jones' way either by Edmonton or another team and this lessens the top dmen pool by another.

How much do you think Benning is going to talk to Sekeres much anymore other than the standard comment of "we can't comment on another team's players"

Ok, I see what you were saying but Columbus would have matched any offer. Either way, you are correct that Edmonton is going to get bent over

Was that from yesterday as Lucic came out and said BS later after that story came out from the former Edmonton Journalist?

I would have like his physicality in the lineup but I wouldn't be comfortable with any term over 4 years. Lets hope Edmonton paid $6.5MM for 7 years
Then we can offer sheet Mcjesus as they will be out of cap room

I guess what he said was against the league rules.

I just don't understand what the harm was in what he said. The fine is ridiculous. The rule is ridiculous.

I guess the rules are the rules.

It would be just a little easier to take the league seriously if there was a bit more consistency with the penalties.

it is tampering...the players are under contract to another team till july 1. Traditionally it is an unfair advantage to speak publicly about a player under contract to another team previous to FA as it can form thoughts about that team in the players before other teams can talk to them as well with equal opportunity.

However with the more recent change of 5 day talk to period before FA (and JB was within that) exactly where was harm done? SO you can talk directly to the player now, wine dine etc, but you cant talk to fans? How the F*ck is THAT tampering?

Benning should keep his trap shut. He shouldn't reveal information to other GM's blah blah blah. A lot of crying and complaining

Of course it's rediculous. It's the NHL. But that aint the point. It's all a 'game', whether it's on the ice or in the boardroom. Their are rules that an executive must follow no matter how rediculous. If JB didn't know he was walking the line then he's a dumby, but I got a feeling he knew exactly what he was doing and was prepared to take the hit.

If JB was shocked that he got fined then I would be concerned but as I said before I think he knew exactly what he was doing.

If the Canucks don't sign anyone July 1st is it a victory or failure?

Not sure I want to get into a 6 year deal for a plug that could end up being a Dustin brown type contract in 2-3 years.
