Oilers only have $11.5m in cap space, so if they plan on signing Lucic and Deemers, they will need / want some of that space back. So I think they would have to trade at least one guy, most likely RNH, Hall, or Eberle. (since they are forward heavy)

I think the real problem is the McDavid one in a couple years if they cant move a couple of those contracts. No way they bridge him, if they do, he is gone.

They've done it twice...

Leino and Ehrhoff.

ROR seemed high at the time but it's not.

The only thing the Pegulas do is give money in bonuses up front. They basically pay it out right away. Straight cash but keeping the cap hit reasonable.

To them its only money while not killing the cap space.

He might have been high at the time he crashed the truck. EH OH!

Signing Vesey would stomach it a lot better that's for sure.

if it becomes clear that Stamkos used us i could see Vesey signing elsewhere as well.

i have a feeling we either get both or neither

I think the outcome is fine either way (get Stamkos or not), but it will help us a lot to get him. We have to try though (as we know Murray is).

I know Murray lucked in the scenario, but before Murray we had 0 guys drafted in top 5, since Murray we have 4 and with Stamkos would be 5. Stanley Cup teams seem to have at least 3-4 of those type of players on them.

It would definitely shift the focus from, say, 3-5 years to the next 1-3 for this team. That's both for better (competitiveness) and worse (hard choices on RFAs and UFAs).

Must admit, I want to start winning more than losing, so it's very tempting to think about him playing here.

It's either DET or BUF at this point I would think, TBL lost their chance, all indications point to him not wanting to play for TOR but wants to be close. Star are aligned - just throw money at him - he'll make whatever holes we currently have seem much less glaring.

Forgot Detroit. Maybe the best fit, money and competition-wise. But the point remains, making a division rival pay more to get him isn't a terrible outcome.
