I agree I was stating about his spending. It might be 11.5-12 a year. - SABRES 89

Not saying to rip him. Trust me I give them a lot of credit for dealing with the wackos that call into the show saying trade Pysyk and a 2nd for Hall but I didn't agree with their convo this morning about offering a premium for Jones. - buffalokb
Lucky for all of us, it didn't happen. But like others on here weer saying, you don't throw an offersheet at a player that is easy for a team to match. This contract would have been EASY for CBJ to match... you have to overpay. |

It feels like they gave him a UFA contract when he wasn't a UFA yet, and I understand why. - kingcong39
He was going to be one though If I remember correctly.
I think he's a great second liner that's worth around 6-6.5. It's not a horrible deal |

Defense also tend to look a lot better to the eye and on paper if the offense score more too. You tend to worry less about defense if the offense is explosive. I think that's what we're trying to build here. - bmhumby
Agreed, so why lock up that much coin in the D If we are building a powerhouse offense.

I don't disagree with you. I'm just saying I'm glad it didn't happen. Jeremy was spouting out an idea. It sounds like it wasn't that well thought out haha.
Can we all agree that signing a defenseman to an offer sheet is a silly idea? |

They'll have to move either Eberle or RNH then. - mhp
Because that has been easy thus far, everyone knows Edmonton is screwed with those contracts and wont be willing to give up much for those two or Eberle. And their new GM who was going to shake things up won't make a trade to dump salary because he overvalues everyone right now.

"#5. Stamkos looks like he will decide relatively quickly and it will get done on July 1st or July 2nd. Detroit, Toronto, and Tampa are the favorites as of now, but the Islanders are putting up a big push I am told."

Columbus has killed all offer sheet chatter by signing Seth Jones to a 6 year, $32.4 million contract extension. |

If the Bruins offer sheet Trouba it might run them 9.3 a year, at least that's what I was reading. - SABRES 89
its because they don't have a 2nd.. you can't offer sheet if you can't back up the match |

Two of the three guys that hold $6M/yr should be but they have been reluctant to do so thus far, maybe that changes but they will have to plug their nose in order to get a deal done.

sorry in advance that this post isn't taking pages and pages of discussion into account.
But I don't think Buffalo is getting Stamkos.
I think TM will offer a ton of money, and he will play for one of TBL, TOR, or maybe BOS/MTL.
And I think that's a fine outcome. We aren't desperate for a top-6 center, and even if we just get used for leverage, that's eating anywhere from 3-5 million in extra cap space from a team that's in our division. If we land him, then clearly we should be excited, but if not, we made the cost of doing business that much higher for three division rivals.
Don't see how we lose getting involved. |

True. Their GM doesnt shy from trading big names - they need more depth |

Oilers only have $11.5m in cap space, so if they plan on signing Lucic and Deemers, they will need / want some of that space back. So I think they would have to trade at least one guy, most likely RNH, Hall, or Eberle. (since they are forward heavy) |

It's either DET or BUF at this point I would think, TBL lost their chance, all indications point to him not wanting to play for TOR but wants to be close. Star are aligned - just throw money at him - he'll make whatever holes we currently have seem much less glaring.

I think the outcome is fine either way (get Stamkos or not), but it will help us a lot to get him. We have to try though (as we know Murray is).
I know Murray lucked in the scenario, but before Murray we had 0 guys drafted in top 5, since Murray we have 4 and with Stamkos would be 5. Stanley Cup teams seem to have at least 3-4 of those type of players on them.
