^This. And the fact that IMO he could have gotten more. I think that is a really reasonable contract. I hope Risto goes for this.
- bmhumby

He won't. Pegula's are known wild spenders and that totally works against them.

Didn't GR guys this morning say sign him for $7M per lol?
- buffalokb

yes, because he was RFA. You have to offer more than he is worth to have CBJ let him walk. If the Sabres offered 5.4-6, CBJ would have matched easily.

Other than the stupid contract for Erhoff, they haven't been that ridiculous.

So you sign Seth Jones to an offer sheet in which you overpay. Then I assume have to give Risto a similar contract. So we (were) going to sign Risto and Jones for 7 mil per year? Brilliant. White should handle our salary cap
- sbroads24

Exactly my point. Paying up to offer that to Jones digs your cap grave with Risto. And if someone calls in to challenge White on that he would go bananas on you.

Right. That would only work in Buffalo's favor if they did it immediately after inking Risto to a 5.5 cap hit. But I'm sure that would've irked him quite a bit.

What is the point of ripping on a sports radio host that literally gets paid to fill the airwaves with conversation points, ideas and strategy... however crazy it is?

Personally, I like hearing all the wacky ideas. But that's just me.

They've done it twice...

Leino and Ehrhoff.

ROR seemed high at the time but it's not.

The only thing the Pegulas do is give money in bonuses up front. They basically pay it out right away. Straight cash but keeping the cap hit reasonable.

To them its only money while not killing the cap space.

Hearing there ideas is one thing, but them not being up for a counter argument is the real issue.

Seriously, Just say we offered Jones 6.5 and Risto 6. Say we get both

Jones 6.5
Risto 6
Bogo 5.1
Kulikov 4.3
Gorges 3.9
Franson 3.6

Is that not the most expensive, mediocre blue line in NHL history?

It seems his wild spending will start up again with Stamkos.

How do the counter arguments play out on here. Seems it would be pretty similar.

Stamkos>>>>>>>>>Ehrhoff>>>>>Leino

It's not even that close.

I am okay with him breaking the bank for a player like Stamkos.

Not a 3-4 Defensemen or a top 6 winger they wanted to be the top line center!

It looks better if you swap McCabe for Franson

If the Bruins offer sheet Trouba it might run them 9.3 a year, at least that's what I was reading.

It feels like they gave him a UFA contract when he wasn't a UFA yet, and I understand why.

I agree I was stating about his spending. It might be 11.5-12 a year.

Not saying to rip him. Trust me I give them a lot of credit for dealing with the wackos that call into the show saying trade Pysyk and a 2nd for Hall but I didn't agree with their convo this morning about offering a premium for Jones.

Defense also tend to look a lot better to the eye and on paper if the offense score more too. You tend to worry less about defense if the offense is explosive. I think that's what we're trying to build here.

They are going to lose a 30 goal scorer and they have to sign Marchand next season and he is going to get a nice raise from his $4.5 cap hit.
