Hey heyyyyyyyy, first time long time and all that jazz. I was driving into work this morning and heard the guys on WGR musing about offer sheets, most notably regarding Nikita Kucherov and Torey Krug...

I know I, for one, would have zero issue with either of those guys on my team. Plus, I feel the Buffalo Sabres organization is trending towards established players as a main focus rather than draft picks and prospects (not that we will or should totally ignore them).

Obviously the Stamkos saga plays a huge role in this but if he doesn't pan out I think either of these guys should be seriously considered and we could certainly afford it with the $12M that is allegedly earmarked for Stamkos.

There is also the added benefit of taking solid players away from two divisional opponents.

What say you?

- HowDoYouDrew

I say offer sheets are a good way to deplete your future picks. Especially for the price of Kucherov.

i wouldn't mind either.. the problem with offer sheets is you have to offer something the other team wont match to make it worth it.. which typically means huge overpayment which also means you lose quality draft picks

Well that Larsson-Gio-Foligno line was a great 3rd line last year for us... Moulson is in for a tough year again if we land Stammer because there is no room for him, just on the 4th line
- Beezer33

no room for girgens, moulson if that is your 3rd line

also no room for franson or gorges if you get one more "upgrade"

I'd prefer Larsson, Gionta, Foligno line as the 4th line.

Long gone are the days where you need a checking 3rd line and a 4th line that barely plays.

Even the minutes out by using the trio above as the 4th line and have a much more effective, offensively impactful 3rd line that creates havoc for the other teams defense.

That is the way to go IMO.

I see people talking offer sheets. Got this off of general fanager

http://www.generalfanager...om/draftpicks/offersheets

Basically lays out what offer sheets teams can hand out. I saw in the last blog, people worried Edm may offer sheet Risto. I don't see them doing it based on eligibility. They can only do it if it costs a 1st and a 3rd (which Buffalo matches) or 4 1sts. If they do that, I think Buffalo lets him walk, and take the firsts.

the cool part about the nylander pick is that he's eligible to play in Rochester next season...will be a huge boost to the amerks
- Michael Pachla

Don't think he can play in AHL next year since he was in the CHL - OHL last year. His brother was eligible since he only played in Sweden.

I believe letting Risto walk would be disastrous to this team's future. I would lose my sh$t if they did that.

Offer sheet for Kucherov would like cost a first, second and third round pick.

Is that you needacenterbadly? I'm guessing that is why you are not a General Manager in the NHL. Did you bother to look at his playoff #'s or the fact that he was playing small amount of minutes due to the fact that the team was top 6 loaded.
Please keep enlightening us with your venomous rants.

I agree. I think Murray values him as a cornerstone, as he should.

Had we let Vanek walk, we'd have Myers, Magnus Paajarvi (or Kassian), Taylor Hall or Seguin, and RNH. We'd have a hell of a time bottoming out with the latter two on the roster. I'd bet those two get us a few more wins in 13-14 and 14-15. Maybe we draft Bennett or Drats. Maybe we finish 27th in 2015, which gives us the rights to McDavid. Lots of what ifs.
