Btw. Matt Cullen is the man. True professional and a gamer. Particularly I think he's a better player than Bonino. Getting him re-signed will do wonders for this team. Do it Rutherfod |

Has Austin Lemieux been invited to camp in the past? Can't say I have ever noticed. |

I think we are all quick to presume Cullen is signing with the Penguins. Reading a lot of people saying it's great to have him back.
I believe the Penguins want him and he would like to stay but money always talks.
I also think there's little chance he replicates last years offensive numbers. But still happy to have him back on a reasonable deal if possible. |

That's hilarious that they invited Austin, I don't like talking bad about young men but having seen him play many, many times, his career would have been over years ago if it wasn't for his last name. He's never been even close to the best player on any team he's ever played for and that goes all the way back to Bantams when he was 10-11.

#32 RW Reid Gardiner (WHL)
92pts in 71 games - 43G 49A
Nice numbers. Our highest scoring invitee. - Barnaby36
Looks like he had some interesting upside. Curious he got passed over in the draft.
One Raider in particular, Reid Gardiner, was trending towards a potential selection. Ranked 29th by NHL Central Scouting, he was projected as a second- or third-round pick.
The NHL Draft came and went, and Gardiner was not selected.

Honestly he really had no business even being in the USHL, any other player of his caliber who wasn't the son of the greatest NHL player of all time would have been happy just to get the chance to play in the NAHL.

Well, technically they aren't signed yet. Its the weird development camp thing. You can get guys like Sustr come to your camp but not sign them (eventually signed by Tampa Bay) |

Allways nice to get a 2nd/3rd round talent without actually spending a 2nd/3rd round pick on them. Kind of player that develops a chip on their shoulder as well. |

I think that draft suggestion by that one scout was a bit generous. And the kid finally starting dominating the W in his draft+2 season. I wouldn't look too much into this |

The Devils' blogger is pretty sure they'll be able to resign Schlemko. I see him as a slightly more skilled but slightly less cerebral Lovejoy who can play both sides of the ice. Make it happen. |

Hopefully he can turn into a good player right off the bat for the WBS Penguins. WHL is not the highest scoring league out there and he did fine.

Kunitz to Anaheim for Cogliano? What kind of pick/prospect would the Pens have to include to entice the Ducks? They're familiar w/ Kuni and have a lot of contracts coming off the books. Frees up $850k and gives the Pens a younger, faster, more versatile winger for 2 years. Won't happen, but one can dream.... |

There's pros and cons to that trade. Gives us a good amount more of cap space to play with this season, but also makes it so ~4 mil doesn't come off the books when its time to extend Dumoulin and Murray next season. |

3 mil...
Daley comes off, at 3.3 which should cover Dumo.
midpost edit: Bonino also comes off, there is another 1.9 mil.
And at that point you then have Colig on his last year, Horny, and Fehr for someone to ship out a year early if cap is a dire need. HOWEVER... wouldn't the cap be getting a bit of a solid boost due to the Vegas expansion next year?
And you forgot Pouliot as a RFA too |

gives us 800K or so this year. That said, not sure we need Cogliano. Sure, his speed is impressive and fits what we are trying to do, but he is a center ...

if you pay dumo 3.3 then you are only doing a bridge deal and I"m not sure that would even cover a bridge at his age. Any kind of contract that covers UFA years will approach 5 (he should be paid about maata anyway, he's better and closer to UFA) |

Didn't say to pay Dumo 3.3... said that was 3.3 that could go to him. I see Dumo getting near the same as Maatta after his postseason he just gave us. |
