I wonder which one we lose in the next expansion draft
- mayorofangrytown

Presumably Morin, but we'd trade him before losing him. Then they can have MDZ (if re-signed) or Gudas. Maybe that 4 year contract will come in handy.

There's also the 8-1 option. Protect Jake, Coots, Giroux, maybe Konecny barring what happens to him this year. But maybe someone like NAK comes on. Who knows? And there'a Simmer and Schenn. Simmer's contract should be ending, what happens to him? If we re-sign Schenn, is he worth protecting over Morin? We are actually not in bad shape for next expansion either.

The idea of losing them in an expansion draft makes me furious

Did you lose a bet or something?
- Scoob

Currently my only outstanding bet is the naming of my child.

It is my wife's car even though I traded one of mine for it. 2017 santa fe sport with all the fixins. They were offering some pretty amazing incentives for the end of the month

Whoever we lose in the expansion draft will go on to be a HoG player and set the record books on fire. It is fate.

Well you aren't going to be renting that out for big dollars. I could have gotten you a deal on the excavator.

Ummmm...it is expanding to make it 32. It's pretty common knowledge we may only be another 3 years or something from another expansion to Seattle or Portland or somewhere.

How long can the Isles realistically stay in Brooklyn?

THIS IS A SERIOUS QUESTION

As a child I read a book about this excavator that went around excavating things. It was an awesome book. I believe the little guy was red with a black top. For the life of me I can't remember the name of the excavator or the book. I want to find a copy of it. as a hint it was something like "the little engine that could" except with an excavator instead of a little engine. I cant remember if the book was about what an excavator could or couldn't do though...if I remember correctly it kept excavating until there was like...nothing left to excavate

It depends on how each does, and ceratinly having them staggered season by season will help. Maybe a couple of them can be signed to shorter term RFA deals -- I doubt Morin gets a quick 6 year deal to buy up UFA years. Certainly Ghost being older than the rest when he started his ELC puts him on a quicker contract trajectory than the others.

But really, when they're on their ELCs, then 1-2 on bridge deals and another couple on long-term deals signed for cheap $$, it's all manageable. This is why they shouldn't go hog wild spending money this year, the next, or anything in the near future. These guys will need to be paid. This is where 6 year contracts for guys like Schenn can muddy things up too.

With a lot of the really good young defenseman, there are no bridge deals. Players such as Hamilton, OEL, Karlsson, Doughty, they went right from EL deals to big money long term deals in the 5-7M range. If Gostisbehere puts up big offensive numbers, and continues the same pace as last year, I wouldn't expect a bridge deal.

About as long as the Coyotes can realistically stay in Arizona.

Absolutely sign the long term deal. I believe in Ghost long term. Try to sign him to a Couturier-like contract. 6 years, $4.25AAV.

I hope you're right about that, but if he scores at the same rate as he did last season, I'd be shocked if he would sign that deal.

Relocation doesn't prohibit expansion. The NHL wants to make more money -- both can be done together. There's 31 teams now. It seems inevitable and closer than some think.

really? id be shocked if he doesnt put up more points than he did this season. he will have 18 more games to do so, and he is the straw that stirs the drink on the PP. hopefully Joey Mullen figures out that problem this summer

I doubted the validity and that it came from someone working in an NHL front office until I saw this quote

“Philadelphia,” he said. “Hands down. He who gets the most best players wins. Philly was number one.”

That would be the best approach, offer it to him on July 1, before he explodes for another season, and hope he bites. I wouldn't if I was him.
