What the Flyers have to watch here is the future.

Lets say Schenn wants 5-5.25 million long term. Thats a commitment I am not willing to make to a player who has had one true breakout season. While getting a lot of PP time and spending a good chunk of his minutes as a complimentary player to Giroux.

Schenn isn't running his line on his own. I am not making that kind of commitment long term after one season.

The other angle is lets say Schenn wants 5-5.25 million for 3 years. Let's say he repeats the kind of year he has this last season. What does he want on his next deal, 6.5 million?

I've grown to like Schenn, but the Flyers cant bend over here.

I think if Schenn would take 5M X 3 yrs the deal would be already done. Maybe even 5.5

More then fair from the Flyers standpoint, but from the player and agent standpoint, I'm guessing they want something closer to 6M per and 4-5 years.

Hence the standoff. It likely will get done but north of 5M is my guess.

Look what Gudas got. I know they are apples and oranges but most expectations fro him were closer to 2.5 -2.75 per.

Schenn will get more then 5M per. At 6 is where they have to walk away. Just my stupid opinion.

I think 5M at 4-5 years gets it done. The lower the term, the higher the AAV.

The Grateful Dead are the most celebrated jam band in the history of jam bands. I grew up listening to them more than any other band from the time I was born. And you know what? They're okay. They have a following because they did something interesting on a scale that no other band did and surrounded it with a culture.

Phish are a much less talented band who developed their droves of followers after Garcia died and the neo-hippies needed a new band. I'm not saying they're really a bad band who can't play their instruments, but they're not good, either. They got a following based on a culture when they could fill a niche.

Also, keep this in mind: Nickleback sells out arenas worldwide, so...yeah.

i wonder how thats possible (bold)

i was more along the lines of saying that about DMB. Phish I honestly could care less about, although i have a lot of friends who swear by them.

why i like DMB so much, is that they incorporate not only folk music, but blues, jazz, rock, a little country, and also some brass, percussion, etc, etc. They use violins, fiddles, trumpets, saxophones, drums guitars and vocals of course, but really try to include any kind of music they can. i think they started something on their own and not just piggy backed off someone else. not saying i think they are one of the greatest of all time, but i fail to see how more people simply cant just enjoy their music for what it is, instead of criticizing it for what it isnt.

4-5 years to me is too long.

If he doesnt play at the level he did last season, and goes back into those lengthy inconsistent stretches he is another contract that cant be moved.

If thats the kind of deal he wants I'd have no regrets about dealing him. Would suck to see him score elsewhere but the risk is far too great.

There is w/out a doubt that Clode, Shawn, and Jacques will still be in our top 6 in 3 years time or more. Konecny, NAK, Lindblom, Allison, Laberge, and certainly a surprise or two will be knocking on the door in that time span, some obviously sooner than others.

If the Flyers sign Schenn to, say, 5 years....what does that mean for Simmer? We know he will ask for a monster next deal. Like I said yesterday, by the time we contend, what are the odds both Simmer and Schenn are still on the team? They may have to make an either/or decision.

Well if the term is lower, then he may want a higher AAV. Maybe there is potential for the AAV to be lower, say 4.5M if they go 5 years.

and thats ur opinion. unlistenable tho? like if you were in jail and you had a choice to listen to either DMB, Nickelback, or Dane Cook, you would consider Nickelback and Dane Cook?

I dont get how you say he is unlistenable, but thats your opinion.

5 million. 3 years.

You lose him then you lose him. Cannot be scared of standing your ground as an organization.

I want the years of stupid contracts to be done with.

If he does get moved. Any ideas of worth? I dont do well with the trade ideas.

Speaking of CHL Import Draft, David Kase needs to get his tubby ass over there. His development is being hurt by his awful usage in the Czech league. Besides it just being a bad league, they refuse to give young players good minutes. Stop being a female dog, David, and take your medicine.

I think he is a lost cause honestly. I think we see three of our defensive prospect turn into all stars before we see Kase in a Flyers uni.

are we at the point we hope someone offer sheets him for like 6 million now? would you take the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd picks back for him, or try to engineer another deal involving actual players?

I don't think you're considering that he could continue to grow and produce as a player, so it winds up costing you more down the line. There is a balance to find. Look at the Simmonds deal as an example.

Nobody is going to offer sheet Schenn for 6 million.

If they do, take that package and run away giddy as Llyod when he first met Mary Swanson.

I would prefer players in a trade. Its not the ideal, but if he wants more than 5/per x 3 years then goodbye.

Whats the most you'd realistically pay? Think you mentioned around 5 million. I dont want to go more than 3 years, its too much of a gamble.

He has grown as a player for sure. I'd love to keep him.

After 1 year where his team screwed around with him, I think it's a tad early to say that. I saw him at the U20s this year (as a 19 year old), and he definitely didn't look like a lost cost. He has a lot of talent and grit. He could have a great year in the CHL if he'd just come over. It would be the best scenario for his development as an undersized player.

It's weird how you think that's a hard nosed deal for the Flyers to offer when Schenn would take that contract in a heartbeat. It would make him a UFA at the ripe old age of 28. You might be worried that Schenn is somehow going to regress into a 30-40 point player in the next few seasons, but he sure as hell isn't.
