Why you gotta be like that? It offends me on the level of you'd never talk to someone this way in real life . I thought the internet was a safe place.....

Care to elaborate on how hockey failed in these previous Canadian markets? Bettman made excuses to relocate hockey crazy markets to the sunbelt in an attempt to grow the game. Hasn't worked in Phoenix too well. Hit and miss in Florida, depending on the teams current success. Cali has faired well. So has Nashville. Failed in Atlanta, again. Seems to be failing in Carolina... The markets that were taken away were in older stadiums that didn't meet Gary's want for capacities and needed upgrades. But by no means were their markets wrong.

IMO buying out Smith and signing Reimer would be a step backwards.

You'd be spending the same money or more to get the same goaltending or worse.

They'll ride out Smith as they don't need cap space and Dominque will end up being better than both Reim's and Smith.

Can we take a sport that revolves around the season of winter where there is 1) Cold Weather and 2) Snow and place it in a city/state that has never heard of either.

Reimer isn't signing for what Smith makes + he's significantly better, and younger. A clear upgrade.

Kids love playing games and it really is a shame it gets far too serious far too fast, from coaches to parents. Enjoy it while you can!

Ok if they DID buy out Smith, what would be the hit for how long is going to be the first question there. Reimer if you get him as a backup is good, and capable of stepping in if Dom goes down, but going to be a question of how much can you get him to sign for and will it cost you more than just keeping Smith for the time being? In the end Dom is going to be the starter, they have to play him and ensure he is the answer going forward. Smith's days may be numbered but thinking they may or may not go after a replacement now, as opposed to just letting Smith go.

Other aspect here might well be to keep Smith for next year with the expansion draft and protect Dom and make him expendable and hope Vegas picks him up, otherwise trade or buy him out then.

Well he won't play for free, plus the cost to buy out Smith....and Reim's is "just ok"

Not too many care about soccer from my last few years of being a soccer dad. I find most aren't even paying attention to what's happening on the field....now compare that to a hockey rink

You have to combine Reimer's salary with the real money cost of buying out Smith. It probably costs more in the end. Also, why are people so high on buyouts? Its an easy answer answer for fans, but literally a last resort for management. Nobody wants to pay someone to play for another team, especially when they get nothing in return outside of a trade. There is a reason buyouts happen so infrequently. Its like everyone forgot they were pretty rare because of the two year compliance period that temporarily made them easier.

James.
Put your daughter in football. Tackle.
Can't say enough good things about it, and a lot of girls play especially at younger ages. Better coaching, better mentoring, better game. She'll run around and smash into stuff. A good recreational/instructional youth league.
