I wonder how far teams will go to get Stamkos? $14 million per year max is where it could be going. Way too much for a 75 point players. I'd rather invest that kind of coin on shoring up the Leafs defense. We have our marquee centre, it's overkill now. If he wants to play the wing, in the $9 million range, then yes. Unfortunately, Detroit is in this game. They're built to win now, while we're at least 3 years away. I can't see Shanny paying top dollar, at this point in the rebuild. I think it stops at $10 million, for the Leafs management.

Let them have him, at that price. It'll derail their rebuild and max out their cap going forward. They'll hit a roadblock, if they do this. Sure, they may make the playoffs, but they'll pull a Habs and reach a ceiling. They're young players will be looking for a raise, in 2 to 3 years and they'll be forced to shed talent, to make the cap ceiling. Leafs need to stay the course and all good things will come of it.
