I don't think anyone's really complaining, I just think most on here have a better feel for the direction they went in 2015, while this overage thing in 2016 is confusing. Either way, they're prospects so we'll have plenty of time to see what they become.
I'm just happy we got a big potential number 1 center. I would've traded all my picks to get him. |

well.. you could just draft a more "sure thing"..
These picks are very important, you want to eliminate the potential risk factors if possible. - Tanooki
The two giant D we took were with the 72nd and 101st picks.
Not a whole lot of sure things there.
P.S. Nicollette Sheridan.

lol, no outrage, I just found last year's draft more like the Tampa Bay, Detroit approach, while this year's more like well....past Leaf regimes - mykokes
Yes you would. There were surprises that did not conform to published lists, including Yzerman's draft strategy.

That's the thing with me too, these overage selections if I'm not correct, need to be signed right away thus taking away contract spots. I don't know if they can just be signed to AHL contracts. |

No - and that is exactly why they picked him. He's 17, 6'3', and if you listened to him talk - very sharp kid. ( unlike most young players, um is not every 2nd word in a sentence )
Scouting reports I've read and what I seen of him since indicate he is very athletic.
Plays for NTDP - more picks from the NTDP this year than ever before - including Matthews, 12 US players selected in the first round, 9 with ties to the NTDP. Tells you something that maybe, just maybe - they are doing something right.
Don't forget something, Population of USA = 318 million, Population of Canada = 38 million. Bound to be some good talent from that pool and more on the way.
Great Pick, glad I never heard of him before, shows Hunter doing his job.

They picked 2 over agers last year also, 4 this year, but with so many more picks does it matter? |

None of this is relevant to being a good selection. |

You could argue that the kid being part of the NTDP is relevant. |

Milan Lucic spent most of yesterday being wooed by the Canucks in his hometown. The Oilers are the front-runners though. |

We will know in 5 years or so how good each selection was. Goalies are a crap shoot in the draft and it is well documented. All the points are relevant to the logic used together with actually scouting the player. He was part of an impressive program -NTDP and is going Boston College another good developmental school. He trained and was coached by ex NHLers from the Blues in his hometown of St Louis. All very relevant to his development and hopefully it pans out. We'll see in 5 years or so.

He was the fourth stringer behind 3 17 year olds on the development team. One of which is 5'7. |

IF Oilers were to land Lucic, would think a Hall deal becomes much more likely. Can't have 17.5m tied up in 4LW'ers.
who's scoring for them then??
why not keep Hall, and deal 1 of RNH/Eberle ... |
