Not really. Interesting fact I learned recently. The way the cap circumventing penalties work, Chicago would be crazy to trade him.
The longer he stays a hawk, the lower the penalty gets if he retires early. If they trade him today, the penalty will not be reduced from today’s amount if he retires early. If that makes sense…

I, for one, do not care what language the coach speaks.
Hell even journalists who were god damn ashamed of Jacques Martin being replaced by Cunneyworth and how it was insensitive to the fan base to have a coach who doesn't speak french have all mentionned how Kirk Muller could be the next head coach of the Habs if somehow the team starts the season on a losing streak.
I think they just used the french thing because Cunneyworth was a terrible coach... if he had been winning or turned things around, people would have loved it. - Scabeh
So their response to a bad coach was forcing the team to limit their options of replacing him by demanding they find one on a short listen of those who speak French? Not a well thought out plan tbh.

It's an interesting viewpoint, and in general I would be concerned about behaviour like that in general in the league. |

It shouldn't even take that much. Look at how easy it was for DET to move Datsyuk's contract. They didn't give up much at all. - RickJames77
Was only one year of cap hit, and every one I've talked to think Detroit fleeced the rookie GM

In fairness the Sabres are almost doing it to themselves. They need to stop thinking of themselves as relevant to anyone outside of that city and be little more humble and modest to suit the reality of their situation. |

I love to see people over-valuing intangibles. Here's a hint: If it's important, we try and find a way to quantify it, rather than putting it under one big cloak of mystery and talking about that which we cannot measure. - lumlums
Yeah, you know what else we can't measure? I bet Atomic Ledge-ie does.

Right now things that are deemed intangibles aren't being measured, but what if they could be. For instance, there were a few articles early last season that mentioned some teams were experimenting with various real time biometric sensors and using the resulting data to give the coach a better idea of a player's current energy levels, or possibly even as a predictor for potential injuries.
If teams start doing this, I don't think it would be very long stretch for them to monitor biometrics of events that happen on the bench or in the dressing room as they interact with teammates and coaches. You could quite easily start mapping whether or not certain players/coaches have calming, uplifting, agitating, annoying effects/impacts on their teammates and players.
The only issue I see is if players and player unions would be open to this type of data gathering, and my guess would be not very likely. |

They aren't paying him that out of whack. if it was 3 million, we would all be OK with it.

Now now.
Shaw is 24, annoying as (frank) to play against and is signed at a reasonable (not great) price.
I honestly don't mind this signing at all. - Scabeh
I don't think the contract is that bad.
I wonder if he will play as big on a team that is not nearly as good nor has the swagger of the Blackhawks.
I worry about picking up the Blackhawks cast-offs who may be over-rated.

Leaf related draft stuff..maybe more info on why the retread picks
Jake Goldberg @Jake__Goldberg
#NHLDraftThoughts (1/10): Building models to predict "successful" NHLers can be very dangerous without a proper definition of "success"
(2/10) GP is not an indicator of "success". Showing up to work is not enough. It's what you produce in those GP that matters. #WeCanDoBetter
(3/10) The draft is about value creation. Picking a player with ⬇️6 F, 5-6 D and 2 G potential = value destruction. #GettingCloser
(4/10) Smart teams will sign them as FAs at near league minimum AAV. No draft pick spent and no uncertainty if they will reach their ceiling
(5/10) Success can only be defined as a prospect who achieves above replacement value status. This is what we call an asset.
(6/10) Take a player with a 5% chance of becoming a ⬆️6 F and a 95% chance of being a bust over one with 100% certainty of being a 4th liner
(7/10) ⬆️6F, ⬆️4D and starting G can't be signed on cheap AAV deals, that is, unless you draft them.
(8/10) But how do you find ⬆️6F, ⬆️4D and starting Gs outside of the first 2 rounds? There are tools to increase your odds of "success".
(9/10) 1st, make sure you have the right definition of "success" in your model. 2nd, find trends in late picks who become successful NHLers.
(10/10) From 1990-2010, 50% of successful forwards picked after Rd 2 were re-entry players. No coincidence the Leafs took 5 of them in 2016. |
