Percy was underwhelming and they probably had no takers as a throw in in whatever trades they're cooking up. |

He's also probably the best player that has been moved from the teams. Definitely in a different class to guys like Shaw, Bolland, Brouwer, Bickell, Versteeg etc |

With Hossa on his last legs, I think their winning days are about over. - AdamFrench
Interestingly, the Hossa contract may be easy enough to trade to a shiiit team like Arizona - that needs to get to the cap floor. He is 37 and has a cap hit of $5.275 million a year for five years - sounds like the worst type of cap jail right? But he signed a front loaded contract before the rules were changed, so his salary is only $4 million this year, and $1 million for the last four, even though the cap hit is $5.275 for five years. A first, a second, Hossa for a used jock strap and they get a get out of jail card. |

I agree, the markets are quite similar. The language issue, can get in the way of progress for Montreal. In the sense that there is a need to hire Francophone coaches and managers to appease the fan base. Toronto has enjoyed financial success, despite missing the playoffs 10 times in the past 11 years. I am not so sure that Montreal would sellout every game under similar circumstances. Shanahan made a significant change by spending serious money on management and scouting. The management team currently employed - for me is better than any the Leafs have ever had. I am confident they are on their way to be a really strong franchise again. With the Habs, I think they need to rebuild. One of the biggest obstacles will be approval from the fan base to rebuild. Just making the playoffs or just missing the playoffs - should never be the goal. Elite offense is usually gained by drafting at or near the top ten - Bergevin had a chance to get Edmonton's fourth, I think it was a mistake to pass it up. - winsix
I agree with alot of this... not everything but it's a well thought out opinion.

If he retires though the Hawks still get a cap penalty I believe. They'd have to hope that he takes a spot on Robidas island until the end of his contract... |

Could see the Devils going for that. Only hitting the Cap Floor because of Clowe's contract (that is being paid by insurance and not the team) and Savard's contract |

I, for one, do not care what language the coach speaks.
Hell even journalists who were god damn ashamed of Jacques Martin being replaced by Cunneyworth and how it was insensitive to the fan base to have a coach who doesn't speak french have all mentionned how Kirk Muller could be the next head coach of the Habs if somehow the team starts the season on a losing streak.
I think they just used the french thing because Cunneyworth was a terrible coach... if he had been winning or turned things around, people would have loved it. |

They didn't give up much at all.

Not really. Interesting fact I learned recently. The way the cap circumventing penalties work, Chicago would be crazy to trade him.
The longer he stays a hawk, the lower the penalty gets if he retires early. If they trade him today, the penalty will not be reduced from today’s amount if he retires early. If that makes sense…
Makes the Luongo trade a ticking time bomb for the canucks.

Would it be the full hit? Wouldn't a trade move the penalty? Pronger and Horton were traded.
