The reason I look at Vanek , cheap and short term. - VANTEL
Cheap for one season maybe but a huge risk…super high maintenance guy... |

This is really tempting . Vanek 3 years 3 mil per. Helm 3 x2.5 per. Connolly and Ferarro 1x1.5 . Let them battle it out at camp. - VANTEL
I agree, the cost factor wouldn't be overly significant but the returns could be substantial. Helm certainly has the wheels and hockey sense and might even thrive with an expanded role (not sure if Detroit has ever used him in situations other than PK). If Vanek could return to any sort of form and get 20 goals, it would be well worth the nominal risk involved. And Connolly (6th overall pick only five years ago - I also didn't realize that he is a homegrown lad) and Ferarro are still young so the jury is out as to what type of player they will become. |

Can now confirm RFAs Pedan, Grenier and Zalewski have received qualifying offers. Vey was not tendered an offer. #Canucks

bit surprised that Grenier and Zalewski were qualified and taking up a contract spot. |

He didn't earn a raise, they will sign him for 250-300K less. |

Colborne not qualified by Flames .... - the end
that's quite surprising - he scored 19 goals last year and, from what I saw, was a decent enough player. Another guy I think the Canucks should look at if he is in fact available |

We're still only at 40 contracts when those guys sign. |

The Leafs will sign him so they can trade him at TDL. |

I'm on the Brandon Pirri train. I'd rather offer him a contract if the ducks don't extend him than Connolly or Ferraro, the guy can score goals, period. |

I'm not against resigning him to a lesser 2 way contract.
damn that Etem contract is reasonable. |

Interesting line up prediction from Nuck's Misconduct...
Based on what I think Benning WILL do, rather than what I would do:
- Sign Loui Eriksson, 6 years, $5.75m AAV
- Sign Emerson Etem, 2 years, $950k
- Sign Andrey Pedan, 1 year, $900k
- Sign Matt Martin, 3 years, $3.3m AAV
- Buyout Chris Higgins
- Demote Jake Virtanen
Daniel-Henrik-Eriksson
Baertschi-Sutter-Hansen
Martin-Horvat-Etem
Burrows-Granlund-Dorsett
Gaunce
Edler-Tanev
Hutton-Gudbranson
Pedan-Tryamkin
Sbisa-Biega
Miller-Markstrom
Cap Hit: $72.052m, including Higgins buyout, overages and Luongo retention.
Issues here: Martin will surely be coveted by all 30 teams; Eriksson may want more $ (although with just shy of $1m left, we could do that); it gives us less options the following summer (Miller and Burrows coming off the books allows for the increases for Horvat, Gudbranson and others); no Linden Vey signing (surely that will happen).

I don't really even want anyone that is 30 years old. I understand being competitive but 6 years for Erikksson means he would be 37 at the end of that. (frank) that poop |

Martin is strictly a one dimensional type player and I think you are over rating him as well as the perception of other teams. I don't think he'll be getting that kind of money - even Dorsett (who is basically Vancouver's version of Martin, plays more of an all around game than Martin) is receiving much less than that amount. |

Just to clarify, this is Nuck's Misconduct list. I just thought it was likely more realistic than some of the scenarios posted in this thread.
My preference would be to sign a shorter term agreement with a good 2 way player like Frans Nielsen. We aren't really competitive enough to commit to a long term free agent IMHO. |
