Going against the grain here but I like the idea of signing Lucic.

The major knock on him lately is foot speed. But if he plays with the Sedins that isn't an issue. They have never played with a player like him.

Somebody that can make a lot of room for them and has decent hands to finish.

Incorrect.

Tanev, Edler, EG, Hutton, Tryamkin are all better than Hamhuis. It's a toss up between him and Sbisa for number 6. He was brutal 90% of the season up until the last 8 games when he was playing to earn a contract.

- CanuckDon

Tryminkin is still a project. There is no way he is better then Hamhuis at this point. Hopefully he becomes better then Hamhuis but lets be realistic. Hamhuis has lost a step but he is still a good player. He isn't a 7/8 D man.

More importantly, what does the mayor think?

What's he going to do...offer him his own bike lane...Robertsons an idiot like Lucic like Benning and Linden if that jerk wad signs in Vancouver
- Makita

I would rather pass on Lucic, but I have a feeling if he comes to Vancouver, he's going to win over fans.

Waiting for the next 1040 tweet saying that Aquilini, Linden and Benning met with Miller at McDonald's and told him Lucic is coming and then mumbled something about no trade clauses.

Agree to disagree. I recognize that Tree is still an unproven project but in an admittedly small sample size he contributed more than Hamhuis. We don't need Hamhuis blocking his development.

We all joke about you being the grand pooba of circle jerkers but to say Tryamkin is better than hamhuis is just nuts. Don't be that guy.

sign Lucic and then trade Miller for a first when he waives his NTC for any team in North America
I agree, Lucic isn't my first choice and I understand why people are bitter at him but I am not. He can make the Canucks better period. Better options out there but the top 5 UFA's probably aren't lining up to sign for a team lacking an identity.

I thought Hamhuis was brutal last year. My opinion of his play has nothing to do with Benning. Clearly Tree hasn't proven anything but at this point in a rebuild we should be giving minutes to our younger guys and stop clinging to our aging vets. Hamhuis is overated, just ask Dallas.

Tanev is a top two guy. Also, the Canucks have already told Hamhuis they don't want him. Why do you keep mentioning he is a Canuck?
- CanuckDon

Because it is a discussion board.

Personally I disagree with your opinion of Hamhuis. He was brutal for the first half of the season but came back in Feb. and was pretty good, the guy was logging close to 23-24 mins a night

To assert that Hutton, Tryamkin, Sbisa, Weber are better is just your own opinion and yes others here will agree with it, but I'm not one of them and I still think he has plenty to offer.

I understand that they are not offering a contract to Hamhuis, too bad. And Tanev is a top 2 guy...not on any team not named the Canucks, 3-4 on pretty much all teams

IF Oilers were to land Lucic, would think a Hall deal becomes much more likely. Can't have 17.5m tied up in 4LW'ers.

So Lucic is going to replace Hall. Come on Edmonton. Get this done.

- fiveandagame

They're gonna f*ck themselves so bad if they sign lucic it'll be hilarious. Hall, Nuge, eberle, McDavid and drais will get huge raises soon enough and then youre gonna pay lucic 6+ too? Please do hahah

Hamhuis is still a 2nd pairing guy in my opinion. If we didn't have the new wave coming in with Hutton and Gudbranson he's a #4 to me.. I still would've been super happy to sign him and trade Sbisa for our #5. Asset management

I'm Ok with giving Tryminkin Hamhuis's minutes, but to say he is a better player is wrong.

Come on Chiarelli stick it to Benning and offer more...go oilers go

- Makita

Depends on term with Lucic & Loui. If you can sign one or both for less than 6 years at a reasonable amount and a limited NTC. Do it. If their camps are going for the grand slam$ & handcuff deal, then EDM would be an ideal destination.

Easy right now.....why is it the end of the world if we sign Lucic? He may be a jerk but he can help the team win hockey games. People need to move on from 2011 and his Granville street punch up. Hockey players don't need to be saints.
- CanuckDon

Move on from 2011, get a grip... I moved on the day the game in 2011 ended.

The guys a loose cannon, undisciplined, limited talent that is fading quickly. He will take penalties at the most crucial time because someone blew him a kiss.

When LA needed him the most to help get into the playoffs he was running around like a goon, and that's exactly what he is.

If we could have resigned Hamhuis cheap and traded Sbisa for a pick that would have been fine. Not sure if there would be a trade market for Sbisa though. Either way, it's best that both sides move on as we are trying to get younger. Best of luck to Hamhuis

I couldn't care less about Lucic's conduct off the ice, but he's too easy to throw off his game on the ice. His temper gets the best of him and he starts running around pumping his chest. His contract wouldn't hurt next year and probably not the year after that, but what about 3 - 4 years down the road when the Canucks might be in a position to legitimately compete? It's not the money he gets that worries me but the term and with the number of teams pursuing him he'll get term.

I agree with you, a 6 or 7 year term would end up being a terrible anchor down the road. It's best if he signs elsewhere.

If Mayor Moonbeam is involved Lucic will get a private street, bike lane, his own electric car hookup charger, and car2go.
