It's a bit different, but you are still taking on a contract where you dont have to pay as much in actual dollars as his cap hit. So you can save the owner a lot of money while you lose 75% of games while they are tanking.

I guess they fell that what they had was so crap, that if they let them go 1 of 2 things would happen.

1) No one would sign them, cause they are crap, so they take them back for less money.

2) Someone signs them, so they sign equal crap left over, for less money.
