Yes.

I wasn't a huge Lars Eller fan either, but paying a defensive 3rd line Centre 3.5 million wasn't the biggest problem with the team.

6 (frank)ing years...

Hopefully he gives Plekanec an extra pair of testicules

- Pecafan Fan

Maybe if you play him with Shaw and Gallagher there's enough testicules on the ice to compensate.

This is also a line of players under 6'...

Meh, if he wasn't traded for jaroslav halak people wouldn't be on him as much. People expected him to be a huge point to producer. He was just an penalty killer and defensive player. Biggest problem is the so called offensive players (patches and galchenyuk specifically) not showing up when you need them the most.

wow great sign by MB.... some of people just look points, what he bring to a team is what every team want from every player, ton of heart and grit, a playoffs player, 6 points in 6g last playoffs with 4 goals, a lot of 3rd line player will sign for that amount now considering the cap going up so salary for every position going up too, have to take that factor in consideration...

Hope Pacioretty can call Backes to come signing in montreal... but i can keep dreaming i guess lol , i doubt Backes want to play in Canada but hey give it a try you never know

Either get 30-50 point guys like vanek and perron for a fair deal or overpay for 40-50 point guys like Okposo and Backes because you feel you need to make a splash.

Well, guess we go cheap, cause we just wasted almost $4M in cap flex.

Welcome back home Vanek...

When you see vanek go for between 3-4 million and Backes go for between 5.5-6.5 million who'd you rather?

Really don't see an issue with vanek if the term is right

Let's be honest, they are missing way more then 1 top 6 forwards. If they got stamkos for 5 million a year they still wouldnt be a cup contender.

Somebody will sign vanek for a 2 years at 5 million a season. You could probably do worse.

Take this for what it's worth, but to me, this contract says, "I was disappointed to leave Chicago. But now I'm here, and I'm going to give you my all. I'll sign a long term contract for fair money (In a few years, this may be a bargain!), and to show good faith on my part, no "no movement/trade" clauses on my deal. If it doesn't work out, you'll be able to bury me in Phoenix or somewhere else with nothing to block it."

Every contract is a risk. Too short and plays amazing for us? Big $ to re-sign. Too long and he's a bust? Hard to move. We just have to wait and see what happens.

The issue is that it will be a disaster waiting to happen. Not because of how me will /might play, but because the media and fans will poop all over that signing all summer, into pre-season.

And if he does not score often and soon, the hate, boos, and rage on L'antichambre will get out of control.

Been there, done that, look elsewhere.

Here's the thing: With the front loaded contract, MB just pretty much made him tradeable for any CASH strapped team with Cap space. Gives the player a warm fuzzy, saves MB's bacon if it fails. It's really a no-lose situation. Shaw is not going to keep us from landing any super UFA's.

For now this seems like a good signing. Let's wait and see both how he is utilized and how he performs with less talent around him.
