May as well have gave him one. No team will be wanting him with that contract.

i wouldn't worry too much about that. He was passed over in 2 full drafts and taken in the 5th round of his last year to be drafted. He only knows one way to play.

Him holding up through the length of the contract might be an issue.

I don't know. Some players work their ass off and then take their foot of the gas pedal a little bit when they earn a big contract. I'm sure he will be fine, but 6 years seems a bit long for a 3rd liner.

Always be weary of secondary players from stacked teams. Stats are usually a little inflated. Not sure Shaw can crack the 20 point mark on the Habs as they seem to either win or lose 2-1 or 1-0 on a regular basis. He'll provide some grit and play that gets under the other teams skin though.

Chicago scored a HUGE 14 goals more than MTL last year..and the Habs sucked more than ever with all the injuries they had

I am a huge fan of his but I am not sure about a 6 year deal either.

The 3rd liner is kind of a misnomer for him. He really can play anywhere and in any role that he is needed. Maybe not long term but for short periods he can and is pretty effective at it.

And if people are into advanced stats, he pretty much has a positive affect on everyone he plays with. Except Bickell. and prior to Bickell's last season, he even on a positive affect on him.

You mean playing with Plekanec and insert random grinder from the habs roster here isn't the same as playing with teows and kane?

He won't be piggybacking off Kane, Toews, Hossa, Paranin, etc as line mates anymore though. I think he's a decent addition, but the contract is a tad large for what kind of player he is.

Ya, I don't mind the deal. I just can't see him being as effective in the last 2 years of the deal if he plays every game the way he does. But time will tell.

Again, nothing against Shaw.

But long-term + almost $4M cap hit for a bottom 6 player does not address the real issues with the Habs.

Would rather have kept the 2 draft picks and the cap space.

Me too but I still prefer him at 3.9 than Eller at 3.5...

I somewhat agree. He's a top 6 fw on the habs tho. But I get your point.

Galchenyuk, patches, gallager and Plekanec. Those are the only forwards better then him on the roster sadly.
