signing a bottom 6 guy like Weise would cost Carr his spot in the lineup
- obie

MT would rather have Weise, cause he is not a rookie.

I'd rather have Carr and Sven get the minutes to see what they can do, but you know MT will probably just give more time to Flynn and Mitchell (without Weise) rather than give kids a real chance to play.

I hope he's gone by Christmas. Then we can have an anglo-only speaking coach (Muller) for the rest of the season and pick 3rd overall next year (2012 all over again).

unless Bergevin puts him on waivers and then claims him off the wire... then you'll see him get some serious ice time. and a 3 year contract, obv.

i doubt that. he'll get 1.5-2 million. he's really, really not very good. he's a 4th liner who can play some third line and kill penalties. he had a ridiculous 10-game run early last season and without that run inflating his stats he'd be lucky to get a guaranteed contract. he's a dime a dozen player.
- DoubleDown

I dont disagree but I think he can be signed for 1M.

His last stint with Chicago really made him miss his time with Montreal. The guy (frank)ing LOVES playing here and is an effective 3rd/4th liner.

I really wouldn't mind him coming back for cheap. As it's been said, he's better than alot of the garbage we have.

He loves playing for a coach that will give him 20 minutes a night instead of the 6 he deserves?

Of course.

(frank) MT. But that doesn't make Weise any worse of a player.

Its not that hes not better than a lot of the guys on the bottom lines, its that they have too many under contract as it is

1M?

He will get 2.5M per year on a 3yrs deal IMO

If that's the case, he won't be in Montreal.

I still think he gets less than that, much less.

His stint with Chicago hurt his market value for sure.

Any reasonable player makes 2.5 million unless they are on their entry level contract.

Dale Weise is exactly the kind of player being squeezed out of the NHL, because teams tend to fill those roles from within as much as possible, with kids on their first or second contracts. once those third tier players hit UFA, there's little demand and they end up in Europe on on PTOs.

He will get a contract, I suspect it will also be at least $2.5M - but I do not think it will have a long term.

All it takes is 1 team.

And apparently, that team is Montreal....

Teams that have players that can fill those roles do that for sure. Habs have Richard all so they have to over pay for 3rd and 4th liners.

If Montreal wanted to sign Dale Weise @ 2.5M per year, he wouldn't have been traded.

He'll get much less than that. Book it!

they traded him because they were nowhere near a playoff spot and they got some assets back, him being traded last year had nothing to do with money

I understand what you're saying.... but imo if you want to keep a player on your team, you don't trade him.

Had Bergevin wanted to overpay for Weise, he would have done it in February.

If he can get him for 2M , why not?

- _nay_

I would prefer he gives 4M$ per season to Brouwer or better, go for an AAV of 6M$ to Ladd. With Shaw, the Habs don't need Weise anymore unless he takes a ridiculous discount.

On the other hand, it happens that a rental come back to the team that traded him.
