- shvingter88

gave us the best grade in the draft and I haven't seen anything lower than a B...they added a nice blend of speed (McLeod, Anderson, Gignac, Bratt) and size (Bastian, Maltsev) IMO..I don't get the 2014 draft comparisons

Only time will tell but after reading more about the picks I do like our draft. Don't really care for the goalie but goalies are impossible to judge.

Would of prefered that Finnish goalie instead. I wouldn't of mind the pick, I just think it was the wrong goalie.

Looking at our roster and I don't see too many holes really. 1 top 6 guy(Stemp), maybe 1 bottom six guy(Gaustad could be a good option) and 1 top 4 guy(would probably trade for one).

The rest we already have.

The Devils took Rykov at 132 and Davies at 192, both of whom are defensemen. I believe that is what Schvingter is referring to.

I just felt the best two goalies were taken so just go with another forward or D. I'm just really high on Blackwood and hope he pans out. But like I said earlier it's impossible to judge goalies. Who knows he could end up being a great pick.

If Boston doesn't sign them to other deals. I would make a pitch for ferarro and possibly Connelly. I think ferarro is a Hynes kind of player.

I would see what Marcus Johansson would cost from WSH. Connelly is a RW and if we did bring back Stempniak, there wouldn't be room for him.

Guys I don't know what I was saying but I was bored started watching Zacha highlights of this year and (frank) he is going to be a weapon. I hope Mcleod looks as dangerous in a years time so we have some goals to cheer about lol !

I don't think we are going to strike lighting twice on stemper. It was a great fit and he was a great player but his age and likely hood of repeating that time of season just makes me wonder why bring him back. We got way more then we had hope out of him production and return wise so why not call it a win and move on lol. I'm not saying I would be against having him depending on contract but I doubt he will fit in the tope six like a glove anymore and that would mean we added yet another bottom six player. I am still hoping we can sign a top six free agent or trade.

I see us making a couple of low key, shrewd signings. No top dogs coming to NJ. I can see ray holding out and hoping Jiri hudler floats around unsigned for awhile and trying to nab him on a stemp kind of deal toward late august. Not too sure hudler will go unsigned though. We're not going to spend anywhere near the cap ceiling.

Apparently Gignac also has a lot of speed and some slick hands.

Indeed he does. I just watched a highlight reel of him on youtube. Kid looks like he might be something special one day

I checked out the video - he looks quick and creative. There is also a video from a 'Brandon Gignac' who raps about smoking blunts, I thought it was our boy at first I watched the videos on all these guys a few times now and between Mcleod, Bastian, Anderson, and Gignac I think we added some real offensive potential here. If we do this one more year we will be in a real different position than two years ago.

If you didn't know, Ray signed another former Penguin personnel. Pro scout, whatever his name is lol.

Ray has gone with "his guys" more often than not in the cleaning of the house, except the recent Columbus amateur scout(?) that was recently brought in. Are they all the absolute best candidates for the jobs out of the entire league? It's all just coincidence they're from Pitt? odds are no. The only potential concern is if he's really doing due diligence in exploring ALL options for best candidates instead of guys he already knows that he's comfortable with and thinks can get the job done.

FWIW none have been bad choices as far as we know, so no complaints.

I see what you are saying. I don't really think it would be a detriment as long as he is doing his due diligence to see who might be available, but I can certainly see why he does it. When he hired them last time he felt like they were the best candidate for that position, or he wouldn't have hired them, why go through the same process over again. If they performed poorly I am sure he wouldn't have brought them back in to work with again.

I manage a few companies that have vertically integrated over the past few years. I can't say enough about how nice it is to hire someone you have worked with before or had in charge of an important work process that was conducted well because you don't have to train or become familiar with them and their work habits or what they are capable of. If you know them, they just go right to work, some assimilation into the new routine, but not much. It's old shoe. Some people take a while to become familiar enough before you can really work well with them, and sometimes after all that you find out you can't really work with them very well or they just aren't very good. It cuts all of that out.
