The Devils gave up a third-round pick to acquire Beau Bennett. Must mean they've agreed or will agree to another deal. Otherwise, the Bennett move makes no sense

They have another 15 minutes I think. But if they don't I can't understand trading down to get an additional pick, then trading the pick for a player, then letting the player walk.

Didn't qualify Merrill, DSP, or Bennett. But TG said about them signing a different deals so not need to panic.

I don't get not going through the formality of qualifying Bennett though

He only made 800K last year, so qualifying him would have been 880K, and that just retains his rights and you can still negotiate a deal

I guess there isn't any reason to not believe Gulitti, but it just doesn't make much sense

I'm beginning to become panicked because the apparent reason is so they didn't have to offer the minimum raises guaranteed with qualifying. Given how low the cap hits were on these three players I'm terrified of what the internal budget the Devils must be on is. After all, insurance pays Clowes 4.85 million and Savard has a hit of 4.075, but real life dollars of 575k.

Thats 9 million of space the owners only pay out 575k for, and they can't pay the raises on their RFAs qualifying offers?

I guess a business move or they're willing to make a multi year deal. I do not think any the players I mentioned deserve a raise after the year they have had. Guess time will tell.

I'm just praying that we aren't becoming Coyotes East with the new ownership group. Currently we have the lowest real dollar payroll in the league I believe.

I don't see that happening with this ownership group. I just hate being left in the dark still. I figured once Lou was gone we would know more what's going on.

Sounds like they are pretty high on that french guy who played in the finish league last year maybe that's why they didn't draft any d man and are not qualifying merril lol

So that also happened today. Unsurprisingly our new director of player personnel is here after 10 years with the Pens.

Well, it's not like the owners are known for being competitive with their other sports franchise...

Late, but I don't hate our draft. Lot of hate going around. Its clear we didn't want Brown. He's got size, but there've been knocks on his skating and consistency. Not too much to complain about in McCleod. Just needs to fill out a bit more.

The pick everyones pooping on is Bastian. He was projected to go around when we drafted, so its not like he was off the board. We definitely moved him up a couple spots on our board because he's best friends with McCleod, but I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Makes them both excited to come to NJ and play together.

Johnny Hockey is a flyers fan, no? I'd imagine so because he is from South Jersey.

http://www.thedraftanalys...-draft-2016/report-cards/

gave us the best grade in the draft and I haven't seen anything lower than a B...they added a nice blend of speed (McLeod, Anderson, Gignac, Bratt) and size (Bastian, Maltsev) IMO..I don't get the 2014 draft comparisons

Then who did we select at 132 and 192?

132 was 5th round so I think Maltsev or Gignac

192 was 7th so I think Bratt
