The only reason I don't believe that is because Newport will 100% leverage the Buffalo offer for the Leafs.

Signing Stamkos immediately takes Buffalo from a 23rd place finish to a Stanley Cup favorite but causes Detroit to miss the playoffs? That kind of contract would instantly destroy Detroits depth but Buffalo could handle it without losing any key pieces? Really?

Garth, you're a day one guy around here and just about everyone you started with has moved on to bigger and better opportunities. Think about that for a minute and then give this another read.

Actually to me the 3 contenders for Stammers are TOR, BUF, & TB with the NYR as that darkhorse solely bc they are those a**holes who jump in this all the time and either get the player or drive the price higher then needed.

I think IF BUF and TOR are only willing to go to 10 mil he stays in TB. But if it is a full on bidding war BUF & TOR are the likely places and honestly IDK which would be favored. BUF may be a year ahead in rebuild, but TOR is TOR and he is from there.

Anywhere but DET, BOS, or the NYR is fine with me.

Pretty much this--I've always thought the 3 real contenders were BUF, TOR, TB.

TOR = Exciting up & coming team, and also connection to home
BUF = Pretty much same as TOR advantages; exciting team and close to home. Possibly will pay the highest salary of all. (although TOR will rival or perhaps even surpass BUF if you consider marketing/endorsement dollars)
TB = Reduce change, finish what was started, and a known quantity on a team you already enjoy

I just don't see the DET value, or BOS or VAN either. Interestingly, I could see Edmonton as attractive for Stamkos--as much as we mock Edmonton, eventually Chiarelli is going to fix that mess and they are going to be scary. But EDM just feels like a bad fit given all their pre-existing center position firepower. So I think it'll pretty clearly be TOR/BUF/TB in the end--Stamkos will have a great rest of his career at any of those 3 places I think.

We don't need Stammer and his overpriced ass. We have Eichel and Reinhart RFAs in a couple of seasons. We should really be looking at the future rather than the present. Our future with Stamkos would only have us trade away good young players when they are up for RFA status.
