The only thing that matters, are issues of money, and the revenue split. The mountain that the battle was fought over, was the 50/50 split. So everything should be looked at from that perspective. The league doesn't want money outside the system, and player salaries higher than cap hits. The players want to be paid for what they negotiated for. All of these loopholes, or a better name for them is flaws, skew that. What did escrow reach last season, 16% I think. If that remains the same, that means a player like Brayden Schenn, who is negotiating a new deal, say for 5M a year, is really only going to be paid 4.2M a year in that deal.

It was 18% and with this year's escalator they're saying it's going to be 20%. He'll take home 4 until the books are closed for the year. If they meet the projected cap he'll get the other million back. Several years after the 50/50 split not only did they get all of their escrow back they actually got a couple percent extra to make the cap meet 50/50. So if he had signed a 5m contract he would have eventually gotten 5.25 those seasons.

When discussing CBA negotiations and how they were handled...yes the only thing that matters is money and revenue split.

Thats not what we were discussing

Each year is going to be different. If escrow gave the players more money every year, we wouldn't hear the backlash about it. I don't know what the final outcome was this year. The fact that the escrow kept rising over the course of the season, I'll bet they didn't get much back.

The entire point is that in a perfect world, cap hits and salaries are equal, and none of these loopholes are needed. Not sure how or if that can be accomplished.

The salary cap and the "loopholes" are what was being discussed.

Teams having the byproduct of being able to play younger players, and avoiding paying and playing over priced veterans just to reach the cap floor, is in some cases a good thing, but really not the function of a salary cap.

88 was the most dominate player I have ever seen in his prime; going back to the late 70's.

The escalator is kicking them in the ass. They need to endure a static or reduced cap at some point if they want to get angry about the escrow. They're doing to themselves.

The loop holes don't matter when it comes to the players getting paid.

Great News to see Eric Lindros to finally make the Hall! This sets the stage to finally see his number retired, for those who care about that kind of thing.

The more I think about UFA, the more I have to have faith Hextall will sign a top 6 forward, hopefully at LW. I like the idea of signing Loui Eriksson who is a pure shooter and can kill penalties. I like the idea of possibly moving Voracek to the second line, while having Eriksson player with G and Simmonds. It sounds a bit like a recreation of the Forsberg, Gagne and Knuble line. If I'm Hextall I'm working on all the big fish in Stamkos, Eriksson, Backes, Lucic, Ladd and Okposo (feelings aside from any of yhem). We just need an upgrade and scoring help. I also like Matt Martin in a bottom 6 role (third line)

I'm hoping Streit, Read and Vandevelde all get moved somehow. I think Eriksson, Provorov and Martin make us better to replace those guys.

You guys may hate my post already buckle up. If we go 0 for any UFAs, I think I would talk to Toronto about their plans with Kadri or JvR. My gut tells me Stamkos is going to Toronto.

I have no problem with Eriksson, I have a problem with the cap hit and length Eriksson will be seeking.
