So is sportsmanship, yet the likes of Chris Pronger, Dino Ciccarelli, Scott Stevens, and Gordie Howe have all made it.

I know. It's done quite often. "If
- Scoob[insert player name here] wasn't injured he'd have scored 500 goals in his career and by virtue of those goals surely would've lead the [insert his team's name here] to multiple Cups. Therefore, he should be in.

puh, I say.

Right...but, in this case, I was simply using it as a tool to show how great he was when healthy. Again, sadly, he DID sustain those injuries, but much like Lindros, I think that he was so great when healthy that he should be in.

I don't see how. What's shady about trading two players under contract?
- MJL

It wasn't shady because it's allowed by the CBA.

What sucks is that a team actually has to do it to try to keep its head above water. Twice!

But Brett Hull was drafted in the 6th round and was a prolific goal scorer his draft year. For every Brett Hull there are hundreds of "Who?".
- Glak18

The reality is that we don't truly know what Bellows is going to be. Maybe he will be the next Brett Hull! NHL teams and execs don't really know. I think it's funny that some fans think they know, and get all up in arms because their team didn't draft a particular player.

Forsberg 6years @ 36 million .

Is that a comparable for Schenn?

- J35Bacher

Forsberg scored over 60 points in his 20 and 21 year old seasons in the NHL...30+ goals too.

It is probably a signal Schenn gets more than people here expect but I dont think his cap hit should be above or at Forsberg level

If anything, the NHLPA might have an issue with it. Phoenix has about 11M on their cap that won't be paid out to the players. With new contract rules in place that limit front loading and Cap advantage, this might be the next lockout issue, and a battle over limiting teams from acquiring those kind of deals to reach the cap floor.

They have to do it. They can't afford to pay players to reach the floor so they use these dead contracts to reach it.

they were over the floor last year...they are using the maximum amount of relief for capped teams to increase their assets

I agree.

If they didn't then you might see them overpaying for mediocre players just to reach the floor.

its the NHLs own loophole. Datsyuk and prongers hit would be gone when they retire but they kept the 35+ rule to prevent teams from tacking on years to lower cap hits.

The only other way to do it would be to do cap recapture, but that could still result in guys on LTIR for "reasons"

I dont really have a problem with it...because it helps players get more money, helps teams keep cap hits down, and helps broke teams make money and acquire assets

Hey, if that would speed up their demise, I'm all for it. Let a viable hockey market have the team.

I kind of hope AZ moves to Quebc City.

The only player that seems to want to be in AZ is Shane Doan.

Saw that the Senators will not QO Chaisson if they can't trade him before the QO deadline. Definitely would be a guy I would be interested in to upgrade the bottom 6 and adss size. Could be another del zotto type. Low risk /high reward on a cheap deal.

Yes it is the NHL's own loophole and i'm well aware of why the 35+ rule is there for. Simply saying just like the loophole for front loaded deals was there, this could be something in the future that is addressed in the next CBA.
