In order to retain the rights to an RFA, he has to be given a qualifying offer, if not, he becomes a UFA. It's just a formality with Schenn.

congrats to the big E for making the hhof. Well deserved and overdue for one of my favorite all time flyers.

I think this means Hexy views Weal as Schenn's replacement.

Yamamoto will inevitably get knocked for size. He could be there, with us picking around 20 again probably. He has absolute jets on his skates though, amazing skill, and he's the small type player who is tenacious and fearless af.

He has everything you could want in a prospect though. 3 years ago he was can't miss. Skating. Size. Smarts...errr, maybe not, but he has a brain anyway. Good enough for me!

#88 is the reason I'm a flyers fan. The greatest to ever wear black and orange IMO
- Just5

I became a Flyers fan because of Paul Coffey but it was all over when I saw the Big E play for the first time. Will there ever be a line as dominant as the Legion of Doom again?

Slew of teams not sending qualifying offers to guys, supposedly to avoid arbitration.

Boston didn't qualify Brett Connolly. NJ failed to qualify Beau Bennett, Jon Merrill & Devante Smith-Pelley. Calgary didn't qualify Joe Colborne or Joni Ortio.

Seems to me they are overthinking things, unless they have a handshake deal with these guys. If I didn't get qualified, I'd sure as poop test UFA waters.

I like Smith-Pelley as a tgird liner when he chooses to bring his A-Game.

Arizona would have to sign players worth 7.5M in cap hits if they didn't have the dead cap space for Datsyuk. Why did Arizona acquire Datsyuk in the first place? Why is there a cap floor?
- MJL

Arizona is gonna be a force with Datsyuk and Pronger.

Did anyone read this hack job by David Murphy , @ByDavidMurphy , on Philly.com: http://www.philly.com/phi...-team-to-win-a-title.html

Some highlights....

"which of the four major* professional sports teams will be the next to win a championship (*for the purposes of this discussion, we are considering hockey to be major)."

Flyers:

THE CASE FOR: It’s hockey. You could field a squad with me, Sielski and Smallwood on the first line that gets hot and makes an improbable run to the finals, provided Brookie stands on his head.

THE CASE AGAINST: Brookie has a large head, but the center of gravity is a little off.

Couple interesting guys. Smith pelley, pirri, Latta. Guys I think could upgrade bottom size and maybe push out a vandevwlde or white.

Reading and\or listening to Philly media for the purpose of trying to learn, understand or grow your knowledge about the sport is the reason the majority of Philly sports fans are the way they are.

There is a reason the old school media is failing.

I don't want a part of VDV or White as regulars on our roster. We can do better than those guys though. Leier I like to start out as a 4 LW. There's VDV's replacement. Then get a bottom 6 center perhaps or a bottom 6 winger, either to use as 4C/4RW or to bump down Cousins or Read. I don't ideally want Pebbles at center. He's just better off on the wing.

Maybe someone like Bardreau impresses in camp.

Would like to think the Flyers will give Weal a look in camp. He was scoring at a top line rate in the A before he was traded to Philly.

I'm sure it's been discussed, but do the flyers retire Eric's 88? I expect they do, as induction into the hhof has been the criteria for retiring the number.

If they do id be ecstatic. IMO no one should ever wear 88 in the orange and black again.

I miss the legion of doom... so fun to watch. Lindros is the reason I'm a flyers fan.... what a combination of speed, size, finesse, and physicality. Very happy for him!

Favorite memories of the big e for me included the first flyers game I ever saw live in Montreal he got a hat trick vs Roy. I also loved his destruction of igor Ulanov in game 6 of the 96 first round. Finally the goal vs richter in the waning seconds of game 4 vs the Rangers in the 97 semis.

Great player and so many great memories.
