Yeah, but his team traded him. These other guys were just handed UFA status.

Maybe I'm wrong, but if I'm getting a shot at UFA status 2-3 years early, I'm going to test the waters.

... but ya gotta love a Yamamoto my friend.

I hope he goes to Pittsburgh so their guy can slaughter his goal announcement so racially bad that they have to fire him.

or Boston.

Yamamoto was so damn impressive during the U18s...Logan Brown got too much credit imo during that tourney. Yamamoto and Mittlestat were equally terrific on that line.

Per flyers Twitter, we have made qualifying offers to RFAs Cousins, Manning, Schenn, Straka and...AND...Jordan Weal!

No matter what, there are mechanisms in place to ensure the 50/50 split, it's just a question of how the money is divided among the players. The reason for the cap floor is to ensure that each team spends a certain amount. Just as the league had a problem with salary paid out, exceeding cap hits paid out, so should the players for cap hits paid out, exceeding salary paid out. No matter what Detroit spends, there is still going to be 11M in cap hits paid, that counts towards the players share, without the salary paid out behind it.
- MJL

Please explain how the cap hit affects that whether it's on Detroit or Arizonas books. It's either going to prevent Detroit from signing someone or let's Arizona pay someone less. Makes perfect sense to let the team that can/wants to pay for it, pay for it

I realize I'm waaaay l8 on this, but about franking time Lindros was elected to the HHOF.

For a few years, he was the best AND most exciting player to watch.

I'll take that any day over 20 years of reliable 2nd line service, aka HHOFer Mike Gartner.

Either way, it's going to be 7.5M in cap hit paid out, without the salary behind it. For Arizona, with the point you brought up before, it let's them possibly play younger players in the lineup, rather than having to sign veterans to contracts to meet the cap floor, if they didn't have the Datsyuk contract, which is better for player and team development for them, but player development is not a function or a mechanism of the salary cap. Just as player cap hits not equaling salaries paid out, is not what the league wants, the players want all teams legitimately hitting the cap floor, to get the maximum amount of salary paid out to players.

I know. Just yanking your chain. 81 actually.

It's actually good that he went to the Rangers. I look forward to a Day-Girardi pairing.

Usually generates some good rumors. Probably ramp up as teams were busy with draft and traveling.

What does this mean for Schenn? He obviously won't be signing a qualifying offer.

Weal? Can he be demoted to the AHL or is it like last year where he needs to be on the Flyers or have a chance of being claimed?

I think this means Hexy views Weal as Schenn's replacement.

In order to retain the rights to an RFA, he has to be given a qualifying offer, if not, he becomes a UFA. It's just a formality with Schenn.

He has everything you could want in a prospect though. 3 years ago he was can't miss. Skating. Size. Smarts...errr, maybe not, but he has a brain anyway. Good enough for me!
