Might be me but I would slow down on matthews a bit. It is most probable the kid comes to the show and struggles at times on a basement team and scores 40-50 pts.
Nylander is interesting. He put up decent numbers in limited time at the NHL level, and dominated the AHL. He will either continue to excel or his small frame will be put in place, similarly to the WJC.
I am not 100% on marners status and where he can play next season, but i imagine him in the OHL for one more season. He needs to get stronger, does not play a mans game. Someone mentioned him putting up mcdavid like numbers.. he is not mcdavid. Not even close.
I think toronto has a legit shot at stamkos, but it will not be the roster or young players that tips the scale in their favor. If that is all it takes and salary is equal, i give the edge to buffalo. - atmarising
can you imagine the outrage, the number of suicides considered, the stress in Buffalo if Matthews outscores Eichel in his first season? (you know... like he did with the National Development Team)?
and combine that depressing possibility with Matthews being "settled" with Babcock when he could have Bylsma...
and just imagine the outrage when Stamkos signs with Toronto..
the fact the the Canadian Falls are just prettier than the American Falls....
wow... Garth's going to lose his mind.

The people that believed Babcock could raise this team from the grave in one season are akin to the people that thought Eichel makes Buffalo a playoff contender and the same about McDavid and Edmonton. - markmark
Well at least we can laugh together at how bad EDM is.... Both Buffalo and Toronto will win more games than they will this season. |

Absolute waste of time in my opinion. These AHL/OHL rules are seriously limiting our ability to develop Marner.
He has done everything he can at the OHL level. He almost has to be in NHL next season. |

I haven't seen anyone predicting point totals for Matthews yet, let alone north of 50. A 40-50pt rookie season, especially with at least starting on the 3rd line would be just fine with me.

That'd be excellent. Would have outscored our highest scorer last year |

Fair point. I still stand behind my argument. - atmarising
Sure. But considering the size of a lot of players in the league, I'd say 5'11" and 190lbs isn't a small player you need to worry about.

Shouldn't Matthews be your 2C behind kadri for at least part of the 1st year?
So without Stamkos in the possible equation for either team... talking definitives only
How does the top 6 even look? |

I dont disagree with you, he should be in AHL next season. It hasnt just hurt marner either, many players play in those leagues long past their due. |

i find it interesting... whether ShanaLouCock will be "tankish" again if Stamkos isn't signed. Clearly if he is signed then the Kids will get a little less prime time and would be sheltered to a degree by Stamkos' presence (which would be a good thing).

You act like Nylander and Marner are midgets... one is 5'11 and the other is a solid gym rat... Marner did put up McDavid like numbers, but i never compared him to McDavid, i just said those number have to count for something

He could, he could not.
Its the delusion alot of leafs fans cant see past. It took eichel going nearly a PPG post christmas to finish at 56pts.

So did Alex DeBrincat.
LOTS of secondary assists add up in the CHL. |

Man that is a lot of kids. I have never been a big fan of multiple rookies together.
how well revered are Nylander and Marner defensively? I know Matthews, Kadri, and Brown can play 200 ft games. JVR is spottish. |

Whats marner, 170lbs wet?
He may be a better skater than reinhart and that will help, but reinhart is bigger and i was still suprised and borderline impressed last season watching reinhart get blasted time and again, and going back for more. Every time. |
