here's the thing

you dont put a player on the NHL roster because he outgrew his current development team

you put a player on the NHL roster because he earned the spot

no freebies... no matter what... not under babcock

- Dozzer

That link you provided earlier has him listed at 160 lbs.

At 5'11".

That kinda scares me.

So do I, he is a big part of the "Shannyplan" , they didn't send Rielly back and Marner is closer to being ready. Hopefully he bulks up a little this summer.
- winsix

Bust your ass this summer and you get to be a millionaire. The formula seems to suggest he'll be on the team. He's still got to do it though.

Not weird at all.
His knees weren't the reason he failed in the pros and disappeared from the Jays.
Yes he had a surgery.....but it was all mental for him.

His knees are what are hampering him NOW.....but not the reason he disappeared.

- Fakepartofme

this is from a Shi Dividi article

Yet something turned, thus far irreparably, in June of 2012, after Romero improved to 8-1 with a 4.34 ERA in 15 starts. On June 27, the Boston Red Sox rocked him for nine runs, eight earned, over three innings, the first of 13 consecutive losses in 15 outings.

He grinded to the end, won just once more after that, and finished the season with a 5.77 ERA and 1.674 WHIP. Though Romero’s knees ached, he continued to take the ball for a rotation decimated by injuries to Brandon Morrow, Drew Hutchison and Kyle Drabek, a pillar of stability if not performance.

Marner has the talent and the tools to make the Leafs roster.

If he has a better showing at training camp than current roster player, he makes the team.

Simple as that.

I believe he will.

I will say it now. If, and it's a big if, Stamkos signs in Toronto I would be firmly opposed to naming him captain right away. Let training camp get underway, and if by New Years he is clearly the leader of the team then by all means. But I think it would be a very disrespectful move to the team, and specifically Morgan Reilly, if they just give the C to Stamkos.

Marner has nothing left to prove..

Leafs told him to go dominate the OHL for a years.. He does this...

- Arctic_AARDVARK

Did Marner win the Getty Images Trophy?

Agree, that's the way it should be. The kid has magic hands and can skate like the wind, I wouldn't bet against him.
- winsix

its not his skill that concerns me

big difference in absorbing contact from a junior d man and someone like weber for instance.

not about size.. but being strong enough to endure it

they keep saying his brother didnt fill out until his early 20s so i dont think he will be a bean pole forever

like i said earlier... it will be about being able to absorb nhl contact... his skill level is more than there

I think a little differently. I think he, Nylander, and Matthews will probably look like the 3 best players in camp. On the ice he's going to deserve a spot. The question mark for Marner is going to be on the bike, in the gym, etc.... do Babcock, Lou et al. feel like he's improved his body enough to take the rigours of a full NHL season.

Lou said 'we gave him all the tools. now he just has to put in a work'.

there is no denying he has the talent

but to call it a lock at this point is a bit premature imo

in games Stroman started the Jays are 8-7
in his last 8 horrible starts the they are 3-5

you like to talk in absolutes a lot ..
guaranteed loss
100% mental

- senstroll

Who cares what Jays winning record is.....Im speaking specifically about Stroman
Here are the numbers for the last 7 starts
those are not great numbers.
Yes the team has saved in a couple of games.
A stint in buffalo is what he needs...besides, Hutch has deserved a call up.

Last seven games
W L ERA G GS SV IP H ER BB SO WHIP
2 3 7.03 7 7 0 39.2 54 31 14 28 1.71

Also, most baseball pundits agree that Romero's fall from grace was mental.

exactly... his odds of making the team lay solely in his offseason training

Lou also said he prefers to bring players up later than sooner

While I dont believe it would be disrespectful to the team cause Stammer is an all star vet in the league.
I do agree with the rest of the above.

those guys all are better than the kids when it comes to the role playing roster spots

3rd/4th line checking/defensive roles are generally better suited for vets since what you do on the ice is learned and isnt reliant on talent so much as experience

I'm 5'8" and currently around 155 lbs.

I realize I am comparing apples to dumptrucks here, but I would be dead in less than a game if I played full contact.

And hell, you could probably argue Marner is at greater risk, because last year he just skated around with no fear whatsoever.

So yes, to Iggy'sBFF, Wedgie thinks he is better than Marner.

Again.
He had knee concerns, already established.
What failed him, was his mental game...he simply could clear, rectify or overcome the between the ears game.

Id rather 3 scoring lines and 1 checking line...

but have the 3rd line as a scoring/shut down line..

Have the 4th line for penalty killers.. no goons.

I would imagine giving the C to Stamkos would be part of the offer the Leafs would make. Besides, I don't think Reilly would be upset about Stamkos getting the C considering how much he has accomplished with Tampa.
As of now, the Leafs have no Captain and Stamkos IS the Captian for Tampa so I think it makes sense that he where the C if he comes to TO.

thats a misconception...junior teams do no pay salaries... more like a compensation package

the knights have to give him 50$ a week for spending money and up to $470 in compensation for cost of living (food etc)

junior teams also give $1000 for offseason training i believe is where it stands at nowadays

- Dozzer

I think education allowance is also part of it.

Does a unicorn eat Skittles? I think so.
