7 year contract for Stamkos:

salary 2mln / year.
Signing bonuses y1 and y2; 25mln per year.
sounds about right (64mln/7y = 9.15mln caphit).

Leafs can afford a 'buyout-proof contract' like this. Mtl, NYR as well. Buffalo maybe, but already offered a similar contract to O'Rielly.

Advantage is that if Stamkos needs to be moved after the first 2 seasons (for whatever reason), the "Arizonas of the league" can get Stamkos for a 2mln salary (but 9.15mln caphit to reach capfloor).

Do it Leafs!

Apparently, if Stamkos is registered as a US-resident (Florida), off-season signing bonuses will be taxed at 15% (instead of the almost 50%). There seem to be some issues with Canada tax services on the max of the signing bonusses compared to the salary, but I'm sure Leafs can make a nice deal with Canada Revenue Agency (surely there's a few Leafs fans there ).
I got this from this article; information on the Kessel contract being potentially comparable to Stamkos contract.
http://www.tsn.ca/talent/...en-it-s-tax-time-1.106798

Look at the table below as well where taxes withheld on Kessel (Toronto) income are virtually same as tax % on Stamkos income (Florida).

So the stories on Tampa having a potential advantage are exagerrated.

Mrs. Wedgie heading to NYC for conference. Leaves early this morning.

Calls me at 6 am from airport - forgot her wallet.

I find it - she left it in car overnight.

Now I have to Fedex it to her.

So why am I the bad guy in all of this?

I'm guessing they keep him for now as an expensive backup and hope he has a better year. Pump 'n' dump.

Took me a second to figure that out. Not the greatest Scorsese movie, but that whole sequence where he's on the rare, powerful 'ludes is just classic.

This story is from Oct 2014. Trudeau has hiked federal taxes 4% since then. That's a big deal on 10 mil. (400k)

Maybe it's because I've never seen that kind of wealth before, and finance isn't my forte, but I look at Stamkos' situation differently. If I had the choice of making 12 mil a year away from home, or 9 mil a year doing the same job in a city I'm comfortable in, I would choose 9 at home. After a certain point, how can money be a factor after a high accumulation is already guaranteed?

I'm not saying this influences his decision, just my two cents from someone who's never been where he is.

The Departed was better, but I liked Wolf of Wall Street too.

The show Vinyl was much better than I thought it would be, that's Scorsese as well.

Yeah, if he chooses TO he's doing it for one reason only - to play for his hometown team. Money won't be the ultimate consideration, as long as the offer is fair (starts with at least a 9)...

I assume there would be pressure on the high profile UFAs from the player's union to sign for the highest dollar value. The trickle down effect helps the lower tier players.

I wonder if Stamkos would be better off without being captain if he comes to Toronto.. Give it to Rielly or Matthews... Let Steven exist like Kessel did.

Yeah. From their agents too of course. Still, in the end it's down to himself...
