Benning will likely overpay and offer to long of a term for a UFA. It's crazy season and I don't think UFA's will sign here unless we sweeten the pot. Not signing a UFA is simply not an option. People will scream and cry for a few days and then calm down when they realize the sky hasn't fallen.

I can see the future

I give Benning a hard time, which drives Vantel crazy , but he IMO is going to draft a really good team if he's given enough time.

He just needs to shut his yap and do his job. He's now pissed off other GM's around the league which doesn't serve the club well when trying to make deals. Just to add to the pile.

Who here thinks that signing Lucic and Eirksson would not make us a better team?

Put me at the top of this NOT list.

You called it. Nice guy but he lost his passion for hockey and it showed last year.

He knows talent and I think he is very well respected around the league. He is going to make mistakes as any first time GM on the job will. I think he has learned from this and will get better. I don't want to lose him after 2 seasons seeing the drafts he has done and how well they look now. Potential is great lets see how it in a few years.

I will give you kudos on your Juolevi call. All the smoke and mirrors and I really don't think he had anyone else in mind. Also he was pretty tight lipped when it came to the draft. He played his cards well on that front which tells me he will get his $hit together.

I wouldn't say he didn't have anyone else in mind, I think had Columbus not picked Dubois and/or JP fallen to us, he probably picks one of them, maybe JP more than Dubois, still, Juolevi probably is his 1st choice after the top 4

Benning sucks. Such poor asset management. He could not trade the rights of 3rd pairing slow, no point producing, no fight aging Gold medalist D for even a 6th rounder. I wish we had a better GM like Yzerman. He is a stud.

I see Linden being a huge supporter of Benning and Linden has the Aquilini's ear, thus I don't see him going anywhere any time soon. Which is perfectly fine by me, because as I said, he's gonna prove a lot of people wrong when it comes to drafting....if he continues I really really believe he's gonna draft a good team for Vancouver.

I see it this way, the areas he's deficient at lead to better draft positions, which he is really good at....possibly a win-win situation

A little over 10 mill in cap space once Higgins is bought out, im hoping Benning can make another move so hed have no problem bringing in two top free agents. Just not Ladd

Benning is a well respected and likeable guy. I really don't think he pissed anyone off. Linden said he was chatting with Montreal at the draft several times and they almost made a minor trade. Water under the bridge, it's a shame more GM's aren't open like Benning.

Like Marwood says....I think there's pressure from ownership to compete while the Sedins are still here. That could lend itself to some poor decisions regarding term and movement clauses, unfortunately.
- LeftCoaster

My biggest fear. I was really hoping ownership wasn't calling the shots but it's becoming more & more obvious that this is NOT the case.

I guess we can trade Sbisa for next to nothing(what he's worth) now just to free up cap space right? We certainly don't need him with the number of 5/6 D options we have, and that could give us the money we need to get a 2nd UFA

Nothing, it's a joke. He said he is interested in Subban and Stamkos. What a revelation

The rules dictate you're not allowed to be, thus they don't do what Benning did. Harmless IMO but illegal according to current regs.

With Edmonton? I wouldn't help them out..It will be nice when they are punished for years of irresponsible "BPA" drafting. They are getting bent over. Sbisa for RNH.

I understand I just think it's a joke. His comments were harmless. He should stop communicating with the media I suppose. I am glad he pissed off a few GM/s

I'm a little surprised Pedan wasn't moved at the draft for a pick... maybe Sbisa will be on the move this off season? or they want him around to expose him to Vegas...

"I was not happy and I’m still not happy about that,” Bergevin said. “The league is looking into it.”

Bergevin, in fact, filed a complaint with the league after Benning’s appearance on TSN 1040 AM, during which he was asked about Subban and said: “I think there’s lots of teams who have reached out to him (Bergevin) to find out what it would take to complete a deal of that magnitude. We are one of the teams who have talked to him.

“He crossed the line,” Bergevin said. “I don’t know where the line was crossed but he definitely crossed the line. It can’t happen.”
