Ryan was only an allstar because every team has to be represented.
And the 3rd for Vesey is only good for FAIR value, IF Jimmy signs.
Can't know how good that trade is until they both get a good chance to show what they got on their new teams. Probably won't be a win either way as they're both meh anyways.

O'Riley was in the top 20 in points for the first half the year before his injury. He plays a complete game and is a guy any team would love to have. Except maybe Chicago or Pittsburgh who are stacked at center.

Vesey was worth it because we at least get a chance to talk to him exclusivley for a month and a half and he has connects to Eichel which is a lot bigger then you're giving credit to

For Datsyuk? He retired from the Nhl. He doesn't get paid a lick. Only cap hit remains because he was 35+ when he signed.

Still wasn't necessary to pay the price they did to move up.

Yes, I am sure the Red Wings were like 'here's your price' and the Coyotes were like 'hey let us take back an extra contract for no reason.'

It amazes me that people say such ridiculous things with such confidence when we know the facts. There is nothing to speculate, the price to move up was exactly what they paid. Should they have done it? You can debate that. I think it was, but it's cool if you don't, but really, the risk (the cap hit doesn't matter, the wings situation is irrelevant to the Coyotes, they save real money and lose a 53rd pick) is clearly worth it if you think you can get a player you almost took at 7 with the 16th pick.

I like what Florida and Arizona are up to. Exciting times for teams down south.
Murray in Buffalo is kind of hot and cold so far. O'reilly was a great pickup, but he got bent over a barrel in the Kane trade.

Right.. O'Riley is the worst player in the league and the the Sabres traded away the next Gretzky in the 3rd pick for Vesey

Chayka himself said they almost took him but couldn't pass on keller. I don't know if I believe him though, I assume whenever GMs talk its 99% self-serving B.S. If I was a GM I would dissemble constantly.

agree with the opinion on murray.

The ROR deal was ok, but man that cash! The Kane deal was terrible. I wouldnt be surprised to see him gone soon enough after another off ice incident. The sabres got Eichel, nothing to do with Murray there. They wasted a 3rd on a kid who said he is going to UFA. he knows who he is going to, and Buffalo isnt it. I'll hold off before judging the Lehner deal because he looked good in an injury riddle seasons.

garf makes the guy look like everything he touches turns to gold because they went from 30th to 23rd...

Except Vesey is signing here. His agent has already done a 180 since saying nothing has changed and he's going to FA. He turned around and said Buffalo is on his short list.

Chayka should have been able to extract more out of Ken Holland for taking on the Datsyuk contract

Arizona was probably the only team capable of doing it, and it literally puts Detroit back into the FA market with the potential to sign a guy like Stamkos

The value on Detroits end exceeds the gain on Arizona's end. Chayka didn't get max value for his side of the deal, thats where the schooling by Holland took place

I disagree 100% and if you think I'm a homer, I've spent two years ripping nearly everything this organization does.

You just don't get much if you're only taking cap-hit and also sending back over a million real dollars. I love how everyone is an expert on how much you get for cap space......clearly the market value is what it is.

Winners of draft weekend: flames oilers jets leafs wings coyotes

Biggest losers: Vancouver x5. Should of traded down if they weren't picking Tkachuk imo. Their gm looked like a fool. The sedins are past their primes and should be separated. Ship one to Florida and one to Detroit. Ryan miller is a bust. And the only big name is can see them getting is lucic who will maybe pull them ahead of Deadmonton for 2nd last in the west. Lolololol

PLUS: Thinking about how many Deloreans there are in November 1955. There is the one Doc and Marty come back in, one hidden in the cave, the one Biff stole, and the one Marty originally brought.

LOL...so the Bolts drafted Deangelo in spite of his attitude problem only to later deal him b/c of his attitude problem?

Oh and it wasn't attitude problems as you would expect "attitude". They stemmed from racial slurs and verbally abusing officials.

As it is the kid has talent, however he is a train wreck in the defensive zone. Bolts drafted him with the idea of "teaching" him to play a more complete game. Obviously with 8 or 9 scratches this past year it was coming along fairly slowly. I wouldn't be surprised if they informally asked for a trade after reading the father's comments about Zona being a "quicker road to the NHL" coupled with the 8 or 9 healthy scratches this year.

The Bolts wanted the Libor kid, needed to grab the #37 pick b/c they didn't think he would make it to 44 and the cost in dealing picks was too high compared to straight up Deangelo for #37 (Al Murray and Yzerman both said as much.

As for Drouin and his attitude problem...

Yeah the Bolts felt so strongly about his poor attitude that they didn't trade him despite an open request. They didn't trade him despite him walking away from his AHL assignment and corresponding suspension. In fact they felt so strongly that his attitude is so bad they allowed him to rescind his trade request so he could continue bring his bad attitude into the locker room next season.

I get the cap floor part, but I don't get the 'not actually having to pay ' part .

Why not ?

- Ihateallofu

because he left the NHL. It's the CBA that a player that signs a contract after 36 but retires or leaves the NHL, has full cap hit. But if the player does not fulfil his contract, he doesn't still get that salary. The Yotes don't actually pay him. It's just the cap hit, as per the CBA.

EVERYTHING the Yotes got in that trade is an asset to them. It's HIGHLY worth it them. They took on a contract they wanted, to get another asset they wanted, to use that to get a dman that at one point was talked of as a top 2 or 3 draft pick this year, and may very well still end up as the best dman in the draft.

there is no question, it's a genius move for the Yotes.

They are, but if you were there that day, you could look around and find four separate cars.
