With the Rozy and Mash signings - the Hawks have 10F, 7D and 2G. Current salary cap is $67.8M, meaning there is $5.2M cap space.

So let's play the what if game ...

1. Hawks sign Campbell for $2M and send Svedberg ($750K) to Rockford - net increase of $1.25M so now the cap space is ($5.2M - $1.25M = ) $3.95M

2. Hawks sign E.Staal for $2M which brings cap space down to $1.95M.

3. Hawks promote Hartman ($865K) and McNeill (~$800K) which leaves $285K cap space and this roster:

Staal-Toews-Hossa
Panarin-AA-Kane
Desjardins-Kruger-Panik
McNeill-Rasmussen-Hartman
Mashinter

Keith-Seabrook
Campbell-Hjalmarsson
Kempny-TvR
Rozsival

Crawford
Darling

Mash?! There was zero rush to sign him now. How bout Fleischman Stan? It ain't looking good people. And now Rozy resigned? He had no legs 2 years ago!!

Umm I highly doubt this was a Stan signing. This one is all on this putz:

AA nor Kruger nor Crawford nor Seabs is being moved. The more we all realize this the better.
- onehundredlevel

With all due respect, are you in the position to know for sure? The latter 3 yes, they will NOT be moved. AA is the most speculated and likely trade candidate. Will he be traded? Idk, probably not. Otherwise, keep an open mind sir, especially with the types of trades yesterday. Again, respectfully.

Only solution i can think of to spread out the forward depth would be to put Toews, Kane, and Panarin on 3 separate lines and lean on their greatness:

XXX-Toews-Hossa
Panik-Schmaltz-Kane
Panarin-AA-XXX
Desi-Kruger-XXX

Something like that

Wow....actually now that i think about it thats not all that bad after all....

Maybe there is some light at the end of the tunnel in the form of creative forward line construction. Lets hope so. And those 3 XXXs need to carefully filled. No Mashinter if possible please....

Rozival shouldn't have been back last year he's only getting worse. Hire him as a coach to mentor Kempny and fire kitchen if you have to but he shouldn't be playing. Mash for cheap isn't a bad idea if he plays his role which means going out and hitting guys occasionally running around causing a ruckus and dropping the gloves like enforcers are supposed to. If he wants to fight when he has to and act like a scorer have him play in rockford. I was looking forward to maybe getting jared boll or Mike liambis played great last year in rockford and is a good skater. I hope they bring in competition for the role because mash hasn't earned it yet.

WTF was the rush to sign Mashinter now ?

They could have waited till August no one was going to sign that bum. WTF is going on ? I'd have to say Q should be put on notice this season , the Hawks have overcome his stubbornness with pure talent before , this past post season they did not , I can not believe Bowman gave into this one. 575k is a lot the day before UFA starts . Maybe sign him cheap and include him in a trade.

Wiz,, this is the 3rd time you've said June 1st.

Retirement and living on Island Time must be great ! !

Enjoy Florida pal .

Tomorrow should be "fun"

You are absolutely correct in that I rarely know the real date, that might be why was goinbg to JJ old blogs.

i have no problem with days of the week, and I know my travel plans over the next 5 6 weeks to a tee, but I juat don't care enough for the particulars of date and even age...my wife was correcting me...b/c I don't care enough to know I was actually a year older.
I rarely look in a mirror, and was surprised at the balding greybearded wribnkly faced guy I looked at the other day.

Ask me about my sleepr Kole Lind in the Western leagu in next years draft and I have taken the time to know that...somethings like July 1st June 1st seem the same...but thanks Mattie.

With the cap hell the Hawks are in I wanted to compare the cap to the NHL's biggest competition, the NBA.

The NHL has a cap space of 73,000,000 for a max of 23 players on the roster roughly an average of $3,173,913 per player.

The NBA has Cap of $94,000,000. The majority of the teams carry 14 players. That makes it an average 6,714,285 per player. Plus, teams can go up to the Luxury Tax Threshold of $113,000,000.

I heard that Joakim Noah wants 18M a year!!! Really?!?!? 18M a year!!!

I guess this just shows how poor the NHL does to market the sport. I hate watching the NBA, but I have to admit, for as little as I watch I do know who the most popular players are.

I just can't understand how much of a difference there is in cap space. The NHL has 21M less to spend on 9 more players on the team. They need to fix this.

- spudrock512

Why is this difficult to understand. Their draft coverage has higher TV ratings than the SCF. Even if the 'Hawks played the NYR in the SCF, the NBA draft show would outdraw the SCF. Sad but true.

Since CapFriendly does not have the signings yet...I had to put placeholders in there. So Baun is really Mashinter and Schilling is actually Rozy. But with these guys in it gets you both Campbell and Staal at 2 Million each. Every penny counts so these signings could help in that regard. 22 man roster.

If you are going to spend the time make a 23 man Roster cuz no one goes with 22 ...And I can't recall when the Hawks have done so.
