So let's assume Campbell is in at $2m/1yr. What does your gut say is the next move for the Hawks JJ? Or better yet what would you propose while keeping the door open for a Panarin extension?
- dciz99

They have to sign Panarin before next offseason. Have to, or they will probably lose him.

And they need a left wing. Badly.

Just so that walker has blades on the front. Many games this past season I saw him play at UC; and got his 12-14 min TOI. And for a guy his age, a guy coming off that horrific ankle injury last May, I gotta say he was pretty solid.

He's an experienced NHL hockey player. Not a college hockey player or the prospect refuse of another organization.

Who's your candidate?

I will grant you, Ryan Hartman can be sort of that kind of player.

But he probably is not going to have the impact Shaw does.

How long is the Cup window open? 2-3 more years?

Who's the first line left wing in the system that fills the role within the window. Answer: 99.9% likely, no one.

The Hawks have a couple of defense prospects who may turn into . . . something? Svedberg due to his size and some occasional flashes. But he has some flaws. Forsling? But he has more questions than answers at this point.

Motte and Schmaltz look like they can be solid two-way forwards. But when? This year? Odds are, not happening this year.

Where is the 1LW, where are the wings you need on the third line this year? You're gonna give 4 rookies on the job training this year? Good luck with that? And we know how Q loves Stanley giving him learners.

I think we need to kinda get real here.

- John Jaeckel

I think some don't understand how important that position is. That line NEEDS to get going and stay going all year. One line of offense? Not good enough in this league. A salary has to be moved to fill this void... The question is, which salary and which void will that create?

Just heard this:

"Campbell and Hawks getting closer. Not done yet. Both sides working to find common ground. Dallas offering more... for now."

- John Jaeckel

Wait a friggin minute. After that 8yr 58 million contract he says it's all about destination and not money. Then he's working Dallas against Chicago about money? I don't care if he comes here or not, but the hawks should talk to his wife if they want to push back. Tune her up and give him a nightmare.

Pretty sure, NJ does not do that deal.
- John Jaeckel

Probably not. But if I asked you yesterday if Edmonton would trade Hall for Larsson you would have said no too.

I agree. CANNOT lose 72.

Any reasonable option in your opinion to fill the LW void necessary outside of the newbies that haven't seen a lick of pro ice?

I would like the Hawks to bring back Klas Dahlbeck, as long as his contract is under $1 mil AAV. I think he could fit in nicely as a bottom pair defensemen (should at least be better than Svedberg and plays a more defensive game than Gus).

I think Polka could be the big surprise on defense... He must be doing something right to make the Finish Cup team. You never know! Polka could be our first IceHog to make the team this year.

Wonder if Stan can sell Vesey on two sure-fire first ballot HOFers. More importantly, I wonder if Stan can sell Vesey to two sure-fire first ballot HOFers.

Campbell has made over $60 mill in his career and supposedly wants only a one year deal. He's one guy that can sacrifice a million to be where he wants...Give him $3 mill for a year and be done.

I'm not sure it's all Campbell. I believe his agent is the same as Drouin.

Dunno, I guess it depends on how you define reasonable. They can get creative, maybe shuffle the deck a bit and move a big salary, they can go bargain basement in UFA . . .

I'm not drinking the Kool-Aid.....I still think this team has questions all over the ice.

Who's your #2 LW (If Panarin is you're #1)

Who skates on the third line?

You're asking a lot from Kempney.

The CAP is still a big problem for this team--esp. going forward. As much as I like CC and Seabrook, I think Stan needed to move one of them this off season. And, as much as I like Kruger's play, he's over paid.

A Seabrook trade opens up big D-line problems, but, honestly, without at least one more top six LW, this team isn't winning a Cup. Trading Seabrook--now, while he still young enough to bring a big return, rather than later, when he's 2-3 years older--and slower--might be the trade StanBo doesn't want to make.

someone mentioned a panik/toews/kane line and a panarin/aa/hoss line. you could go third line desi/kruger/low priced ufa vet. granted...your 4th line is youngsters...but they will only play 8 minutes a night anyway. I'm not saying its ideal, far from it...but it's our reality right now. maybe we get weise for that third line. or instead of weise we get brad richards for better center depth. I just think with the panarin cap situation it will be tough to find anyone to play 1LW that will not cost us. I also think adding campbell would be a huge get as people slot in better on the blue line. I don't know...i guess time will tell.

Yikes, I dunno, Al.

Maybe if the team had no other glaring needs.

I just don't think they need another d-man nearly as much as they do a LW. Campbell is a nice to have. 1LW is a got to have.

And I don't think they can spend $7 million right now without losing someone else's salary.

Gotta move significant salary with little to no return salary. Then that loss has to be backfilled. No. Easy. Task.

Add Joe Colbourne too.

3rd line of Panik-Kruger-Colbourne. Forechecking machine.

And therefore so is missing the playoffs.

Go look at the western Conference final standings the last couple of years.
