A lot of us on this board piss and moan about Danault and a 2nd round pick got traded for Weise and Fleisch.

Taylor Hall got traded for Adam Larsson. What a horsepoop deal for the Oilers.

Wonder if JeroPotato shows up today to tell us what the Oil will or won't do

Agree with you and Q last year defanged Weise not allowing him to play to his strengths.
Q was an epic failure last year with his coaching and IMHO is the reason they were not repeat champions.

- molly2522

And Garbutt and Daley? .... What I hope every Hawk fan remembers is that in a Game 7 that the Hawks lost by a goal the 3rd pairing was Gus (rookie sent back and forth to Rockford) and Rundblad (cut-went to Switzerland-came back to the Hawks all in the SAME season). That was Q 's, and only Q's choice and it just may have cost Rocky a couple more playoff gates and fans another round and maybe deeper run into the playoffs.

Probably say there is no way they want Crow... Right as Stan pulls the trigger. I would pee a little!

In all seriousness, tons of moves are made without our help that look, on the surface, to not make sense. I love taking the rumors and tidbits that JJ provides and extrapolate from there.

Because what that guy said is not true...Stammer gave a discount. He's still a rich man, playing a game he loves with a team that has a really good chance to stay good a long time. Actually I am rooting for him more now.
- kwolf68

How about - offers aren't there like they were, with teams knowing that a stagnant cap is likely to be the norm for the next several years at least.

Likely one of the funniest things I've read today. If you think last year was on Q, you' weren't watching.
- JRoenick97

I watched last year and at the start of it said this will be Q's biggest test. I'll be watching this year too and think it's an even bigger test for Q . ...... No more overwhelming the opposition with loads more talent. Coach em up Q.

Dude you had Rozy in the press box watching. Q played Run-U-R-Bad over Rozival? Why on earth would you do that? Yes last years team was prolly a little tired. There was some roster turnover. But Q and only Q made those mind boggling line up decisions. If Q runs the line up he had for games 6 and 7 (the forwards) the entire way? Still think we win that. His decision to play #5 was comical.

True but there needs to be more scoring balance...One line teams don't make the dance and if they do, don't last long....As just happened.
- Al

Quite possibly there will be less balance this year with a 3rd and 4th line of shutdown players.

He did well to coach them to the playoffs with that D core. Stan gave him a little forward depth at the end, but nothing in the top 4D level... and it showed.

how about 0 income tax in florida making his deal better and a comparable in chicago you would have to increase the salary by about 10%
- molly2522

Do you people know anything about how income taxes work and how professional athletes - who play half of their games in states other than their home states - are taxed?

The difference between the taxes he pays in Cicago vs. Tampa is certainly not 10% of his deal - more like about $100,000 (without doing a full calculation).

In terms of low cost quality vets for the bottom 6, there is two right there. Q should take the leash off of Weise and let him do what he does. Forecheck and hammer people.
- z1990z

I wish the same thing, but Q is about puck possession and not hitting. Drives me crazy. I was excited that we got Weise at the TDL last year, but was not surprised that Q mismanaged him and even scratched him more games than any of us expected.

#BREAKING - ANA and NSH gearing up for Rick Nash.

- mrpaulish

So the Hawks are just going to stand pat while the rest of the division gets better? Great recipe so far.

IL state income tax is 3.75%, so half that (for half the games) and it's about a 1.8% difference.

I spent a few minutes watching the apocalypse on the Oiler board and Jero was nowhere to be found, so unless he changed his avi, I think he might have committed suicide.

If you look at what AA brings to this team and what he has done for 88 and 72? Then you factor in what he is making??? You dont trade that guy. Say the Hawks do and they sign say a Ladd? Who the heck is gonna man the #2 C spot? I heard Richards brought up, but Brad is more of a top of the circles C. AA goes right to blue paint, Every time. His ability to create havoc at the net opens up room for 88 and 72.

AA aint pretty. He aint flashy, but the guy brings his lunch to work every day and puts it all out there.

- z1990z

Agree 100% on your evaluation of AA. Someone else said AA could be a casualty because of cap reasons, which to me is the only reason he should be considered as a player to ship out. Otherwise, AA needs to stay as 2LC.

Who has legitimately gotten better? STL losing Backes, Shattenkirk, Brouwer. MIN loses Vanek ad possibly Dumba, Dallas loses Goligoski and Demers, NSH gains PK, but loses Weber. Ducks sent Andersen packing....

In the end I think the early exit was probably a blessing since they weren't gonna win and now they get more rest. But 100% agree that while there were a lot of problems, some of them were exacerbated by Q's decisions, or could have been fixed but weren't because of Q's decisions. Who knows what Gus would have looked like if he hadn't been shuffled back and forth and then press-boxed and asked to change his style of play. And Runblad on the ice in a game 7 is straight up embarrassing. (Stan AND Q at fault for that one). We've rehashed the Mash Mistake endlessly, but that's another one on Q, and he didn't manage Stan's TDL pickups very well either.

Every year Q does seemingly dumb poop, roster-wise, and usually takes a few games to figure out the best lineup. Some of it is feeling out the other team and figuring out the best response, but some of it is without a doubt also Q's stubbornness and this is nothing new. Every year before this year he had a team so stacked that they kept in it in spite of Q's lineups until he settled on the right one. This year there were too many holes, and too many tired core members, for them to tread water during Q's figuring it out period.

Was responding more to the NSH possibly getting Nash and now they have Subban. I should have clarified.

Kane > Stamkos
Toews > Stamkos

Hawks win Cup > Stamkos & Lightning--

No state tax in FL-- > CA corrupt tax hell

- jb3333

Fixed it for you.

As much as this state of IL is a progressive poophole in everything else, imagine highest wage earners in CA. IIRC, the progressive CA state tax structure stipulates 13% state income tax in the highest bracket. Some of our frequent LA posters here can verify.

Sure TX and FL is 0.0 but even IL at a flat 3.75% is not nearly as psychotic as CA.

So in CA, that Stamkos 8.5M is pseudo equivalent to 9.77M.

Less - state income taxes are deductible for federal taxes - so about 1% difference.

But - I don't know exactly how income is apportioned to other states (countries) - it's probably the 41 road games divided by the number of calendar days in the season.

Hawks have not stood pat. See JJ's long list of subtractions with Kempny as the only true addition.

Out of state games make up something like 36 out of 191 working days for Lightning. It's closer to 4% than it is to 100k.

Are you really saying that the difference if $850,000?

When the Illinois tax at 3.75% would be $318,750 - which is deductible for federal taxes - making the difference a net of $191,250?

Yes - more than $100,000 - not 10%.

EDIT: thought you had 10% difference - it's really about 2.25%.
